We would like to clarify that the Travel Tour theme is not officially listed as WPML-compatible. It uses its own custom code and several filters to manage translations and email handling. One example of this is:
As you’ve seen, the theme includes its own WPML-related logic, which modifies how language settings are applied. If we start modifying their custom implementation from our side, there’s a real risk of introducing further complications.
Just to confirm, we’ve tested the scenario on our end and couldn’t reproduce the issue. Here’s a quick recording as proof: versteckter Link
That said, it’s still possible that other emails or strings may not work as expected due to the way the theme handles translations.
For a more permanent solution and better integration, we suggest inviting the theme authors to collaborate with us through our WPML Contractors program: https://wpml.org/contractors/. This would fall under development and testing, rather than standard compatibility support.
Hi Bruno, thank you for the recording, that helps. You understood the issue correctly. Could you please try the same scenario in English, e.g. if you book with the English translated site? That does not work at my end, i.e. the email comes in German. You can also use my test bookings already there and change the email address if you want.
We want to be transparent that we’ve reached the limit of what we can support from our side. The theme’s custom implementation is quite complex and doesn't follow standard WPML practices, which is why issues keep surfacing—especially around emails and translations.
As we go further, it's likely that new problems will continue to appear in different scenarios. This is no longer just a compatibility issue; it's a matter of deeper integration, which we simply can't cover within the scope of regular support.
For a sustainable and reliable solution, we strongly recommend that the theme developers join our Go Global program: https://wpml.org/go-global/
This allows us to collaborate directly with them, run all the necessary tests—including email scenarios—and help them implement full compatibility the right way.
Ok, let me know what they say. Because there are various types of emails that can be sent, e.g. New Order / Order Confirmation, Order Processing, Order Completed, Order On-Hold, Order failed Failed and cancelled etc. This all needs to be tested in various languages and different order combinations, that's why this needs to go through our Go Global program.
Hi Bruno, that is what Goodlayers wrote: There aren't exact plan for this yet, but we'll try improving this in the future.
Let me summarize again:
The automatic emails after the booking completion are being sent correctly. However, any email triggered in the tour order system are not being sent with the language of the front end page the user has selected when he did the booking. So all those email are being sent in German which is very annoying for English speaking customers.
Can I hire a freelancer since I don't think this is rocket science?
After a thorough review, we’ve determined that the theme currently in use is not officially recommended or fully compatible. Unfortunately, the theme’s author has not provided a clear timeline or commitment to resolving the existing compatibility issues.
We’ve confirmed that the issue originates from the theme’s code, not from WPML. Based on WPML’s compatibility policies, we recommend the following next steps:
Switch to a supported theme or plugin
Consider transitioning to a theme or plugin that offers similar functionality and is officially supported by WPML. One potential option to explore is https://wpml.org/theme/adventure-tours/, although we’re not yet certain if it offers all the same features.
Custom development
If you'd prefer to continue with your current theme, hiring a developer to resolve the issues or build a custom solution may be a good path. WPML’s recommended contractors can be found here: https://wpml.org/contractors/
We’re happy to assist in reviewing alternative options or provide more details on the plugins and themes we've already tested. Please find the list attached—let us know if you'd like insights on any of them specifically.
Looking forward to hearing how you'd like to proceed.
