Dear WPML Support Team,
I am currently experiencing a problem with my WPML account that prevents me from connecting my websites. We have gone thru a structural reset of our websites and have unlinked all websites from the former main-account that is not available any longer.
In my WPML account dashboard I am asked to switch to the **Pay-As-You-Go** model. When I try to complete the process and enter my account details (including my VAT ID), the system immediately returns the error message:
**“Too many bad requests.”**
Because of this error I cannot finish the registration process. Unfortunately, the VAT ID field cannot be left empty, so I am stuck in this step.
At the same time, my websites still show my WPML account information, but I am **unable to reconnect or manage the site registrations**.
As a result:
* I cannot connect the websites to my WPML account
* I cannot use **shared translation memory**
* I cannot use the **shared glossary**
Could you please check my account and **release/reset the registered websites**, so that I can reconnect them properly?
The main website is:
versteckter Link
If necessary, I can also provide the list of the other sites that should be connected.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Best regards
Bärbel Zimber

Hi Bärbel,

Thank you for contacting WPML Support.

From your message:

We have gone through a structural reset of our websites and have unlinked all websites from the former main-account

I understand that you may now be using a new WPML main account and would like to register the website under that new account instead. If that is correct, this can be done quite easily.

To register the site under the new account:

- Log in to the new WPML.org account
- Generate a new site key for the website
- Then log in to your WordPress site
- Go to Plugins → Add New → Commercial
- Click Unregister WPML
- Once the empty field for the site key appears, enter the newly generated site key

Save the changes

This will register and activate the site under the new account.

Regarding the error:

“Too many bad requests.”

This usually happens when the system receives multiple activation attempts in a short period of time (for example, when trying to activate Pay As You Go several times). In that case, the system may temporarily block further attempts for security reasons.

In most cases, the restriction is lifted automatically after some time. If you have not tried again after waiting, please do so. You can also try from a different browser to rule out any browser/session-related issue.

As for the VAT issue, in some countries the VAT ID is mandatory due to EU tax regulations. Because this is controlled by billing and tax rules, there may be limits to what we can change directly from support. However, I will still check with the appropriate team to confirm this for you.

Once the site is successfully registered and Pay As You Go is active, you will be able to generate a connection code and connect the other sites as well, so they can share the same translation memory, glossary, and related resources.

For now, I suggest we focus first on getting the site registration working properly. Once that is resolved, we can move on to the other steps one by one and make sure everything is set up correctly.

Please let me know how it goes after trying the registration again. I’ll be happy to assist further if needed.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Dear Prosenjit
Thank you for your quick reply.
I have been able to "unlock" pay as you go for the new main account. But I can not connect our website versteckter Link. It always says connection failed. I have unregistered it, I deactivated and re-activated Wpml, I have deleted all possible caches (including WPML cache). I have been waiting for a complete day to try it again, but nothing works.
Please check if there is anything you can do to make it possible to connect our sites!
Thank you and kind regards.

Hi Baerbel,

Thank you for the update!

I’m glad to hear that Pay As You Go is now activated correctly.

Regarding the issue with connecting the site: since you shared the site link, I checked our system and can confirm that the site already appears to be connected. I can see that the main site and textilart.academy are listed in the same group, which normally means the connection was successful and the sites should be able to share the glossary, translation memory, and other shared resources.

However, I also noticed that textilart.academy appears to have a possible SSL connectivity issue in our system. Could you please check and confirm whether the SSL certificate is configured correctly and working properly on that site?

Once that is confirmed, I would also kindly ask you to create a short video showing:

- The exact steps you are taking
- The full workflow
- The error message or issue you encounter while trying to connect the site

This will help me clearly understand what is happening and identify where the process may be failing.

You can record the video using Loom (or any similar tool), upload it, and then share the public view link in your next reply.

Once I have that, I’ll review everything carefully and do my best to help you resolve it.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Dear Prosenjit
I am sorry, but the problem is not to be solved from our end.
I followed all of your instructions many times, but I just can not connect our websites.
Yesterday it finally showed all of our websites disconnected from pay-as-you go. I waited for another day but when today I set up
versteckter Link
as our main account, it suddenly showed
versteckter Link
again as connected as a main account for pay-as-you-go.
I discontinued this service, copied the migration code but it still shows
error upon connecting the website

I have tried this so many times now, waited in between trials but to no success.
Is there a way you can do this from your end? I need to go on translating our websites but really do want to use pay as you go as all our websites are linked and use the same terminology and I do not want to pay twice for the same translations.
Thank you for looking into this again
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND🌻
Baerbel

Hello Bärbel,

I hope you’re doing well, and I’m sorry for the delayed reply over the weekend.

Based on the information available in our system, the sites are already part of the same group, which means they appear to be connected correctly and should be sharing the same subscription, glossary, and translation memory.

Since that does not seem to be happening on your end, this will need a closer investigation.

Please note that from our side, we cannot connect the sites directly — the connection itself must be completed from within the plugin on the site. However, I can certainly check the setup and help identify what may be preventing it from working correctly.

To investigate this properly, I would like to request access to:

the main site where Pay As You Go is activated, and
the secondary site that you are trying to connect using the connection code

I have set your next reply as private, so anything you share there will be private and only be visible to WPML supporters.

Once you share the access details, I’ll check both sites, review the configuration carefully, and do my best to help you get this working correctly.

Looking forward to your response, and I’m always here to help.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hello Prosenjit
I am sorry to keep you waiting. I am away on a show this week and the internet in the hotel just does not work properly. So I can not access my websites in order to give you temporary access. After many unsuccessful attemps I decided to stop. I will do it right away when I am back home on Monday.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Hello Baerbel,

Hope you’re doing well!

Thank you for the update. Whenever you’re ready, please share access to your site and I’ll jump back in to investigate further and help find a fix for the issue. The private box is still enabled, so you can securely share the access details there.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hi Baerbel,

Thank you for sharing the access details.

I checked on our side and disconnected textilbahnhof.de from the group that included textilart.academy. They are now in separate groups.

Could you please try activating Pay As You Go on textilbahnhof.de and check whether textilart.academy still shows the same subscription afterward?

If it does not, then please copy the migration code from textilart.academy and use it to connect with textilbahnhof.de after Pay As You Go has been activated there.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes. I’ll be happy to help if you need any further assistance with this.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Hi Prosenjit,

this is getting really nerve-wracking, so I hope you can help me clarify what’s going on.

I successfully set up “pay as you go” on my main website:
versteckter Link

After that, I connected
versteckter Link
to textilbahnhof.de using the migration code. The process itself completed without errors.

However, the issue is:
textilart.academy is still listed as the “main” site and does not appear under the connected sites on the other installations.

To double-check, I connected a third website:
versteckter Link

This one worked exactly as expected and shows up correctly as a connected site.

So currently:

* key-competences.eu is correctly connected
* textilart.academy is NOT listed as a connected site on the others
* instead, textilart.academy still behaves as if it were the main site and asks me to connect other websites to it

I’ve attached a DOCX with a screenshot of the translation dashboard from all three websites, so you can see the issue directly.

Could you please re-check what went wrong with the connection of textilart.academy and how we can fix this?

Thanks a lot in advance – I really appreciate your help!

Best regards

Hi there,

Thank you for the update!

The issue is mostly resolved, However, it seems that textilart.academy still has some settings or configuration on the subscription side that I’m not able to see from our system, which is likely why it continues to behave as the primary site.

I have already shared all the details and my findings with one of my colleagues from the Site-Subscription team so they can investigate what is happening specifically with textilart.academy.

As soon as I receive any update from their side, I will inform you right away.

Thank you very much for your patience and cooperation throughout this process.

Best regards,
Prosenjit

Good morning
I’m a developer from the ATE team working on the site key side, and I checked your setup.
I found two separate issues.
First, regarding textilart.academy:
the site was already present and connected in AMS, but it had been marked in a way that prevented it from being shown in the list of connected sites. We have now corrected that on our side, so it should no longer behave as a standalone main site in the dashboard.
Second, regarding key-competences.eu:
this site currently does not have a matching site key connected in AMS. The available unassigned site key on the account is registered for a different domain: housetextilearts.shop, so it cannot be used automatically for key-competences.eu.
What we recommend:
Please create/register a new site key on wpml.org for key-competences.eu and assign it to that site.
Please also confirm whether housetextilearts.shop is still an active website.
If housetextilearts.shop is no longer used, its old site key should be removed to avoid confusion.
If it is still active, we can provide separate instructions, because at the moment that site is not registered in AMS.

Feel free to contact me if you run into any issues or have any additional questions.

Best regards,
Olexander
