I understand what you're looking for. When you start translating a post or page, and the options in "WPML > Settings > Media Translation" are selected (as shown in this screenshot: enlace oculto), WPML will create language-specific versions of the images so they appear correctly in each language. If you don't want the image to be duplicated for each language, you can uncheck these options and then try to translate. However, this will result in the image not appearing in the translation.

However, let me clarify how duplication works here. WPML does not make physical duplicates of the images. Instead, it assigns a new ID to the same image, including language-specific information. This method ensures that WPML does not burden the server with multiple copies of the same image; it uses the default image and associates it with different languages through unique identifiers.

If your concern is about duplicate images taking up server storage, rest assured that this is not happening. The same image is reused across different languages, and only an identifier gets added for each version. This means only a single instance of the image is stored in the database, not exact duplicates of the image. I hope you can understand.

Currently, it's not possible to have a single image load in the translation without duplication unless you implement a custom coding solution. Alternatively, you can maintain the settings where images are not duplicated and manually assign the image in each translation as needed.
