Problem: The client is experiencing an issue with the WPML language switcher where the ALT attributes for language flags are not set correctly, leading to accessibility issues on their website. Initially, a temporary fix was applied from the WPML errata, but it caused further issues where the ALT attribute and the text were the same, which is confusing for screen readers. Solution: We recommend updating the WPML plugin to the latest version (4.7.1), which handles ALT attributes more effectively. If the client is not using the language names option, the plugin will automatically add ALT text to images. If the client wishes to display language names and also include ALT text, this behavior is not recommended by Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. However, if needed, the client should add custom code to their theme's functions.php file. We do not provide support for custom coding, but the client can hire a contractor from WPML contractors.
