Hintergrund des Themas:
I am trying to translate my homepage using WPML with GeneratePress and GenerateBlocks. The German original page looks fine, but the English version has a broken layout. In the editor preview, everything looks correct in both languages, but the published English page breaks. When comparing the rendered HTML, the German page (versteckter Link) has a normal closing tag, but the English page (versteckter Link) is missing some closing tags, which changes the DOM hierarchy and breaks the grid.
Die Symptome:
The English version of the homepage has incorrectly nested divs, causing the layout to break completely. WPML should only duplicate the page and change the text, but duplicating the page so it is not connected to the WPML translation anymore also does not fix it.
Fragen:
How can I fix the broken layout on the translated English page?
Welcome to WPML support. Is this happening only on the homepage of the website, or are there other pages with the same problem?
Is it possible for you to create a dummy page and add only the section that you have issues with using GeneratePress and translate it from WPML > Translation Dashboard and see if it works?
thank you for your help! It happens on all pages. I make a dummy page as you said: versteckter Link and versteckter Link
I tried to do a workaround by wrapping the div-container with groups of the gutenberg editor, but it did not really help.
I hope you can help me, because like this I cannot use WPML at all :/
- IMPORTANT STEP! Create a backup of your website. Or better approach will be to test this on a copy/staging version of the website to avoid any disruption of a live website.
- Go to "WordPress Dashboard > Plugins" and deactivate all plugins except:
. WPML Multilingual CMS
. WPML String translation
. GenerateBlocks
. GenerateBlocks Pro
- Check if you can still recreate the issue.
- If not, re-activate your plugins one by one and check the issue each time to find out the plugin that causes the problem.
If the issue persists, I'd appreciate it if you could provide the login information of the copied/staging version of the website so I can do troubleshooting without the fear of breaking a live website.
Thank you for the login information. I spent a lot of time to find out what might be the problem but I failed.
Then I created a clean WordPress installation and tried to add the same test page you had there. You can login here:
versteckter Link
The test page is this:
versteckter Link
But I could not make the page to show that left/right design. What might I miss here?
Can you login and check?
The reason behind this test is to show that even on a clean installation, this happens. That way I will be able to report this to the compatibility team and ask them to follow up.
May I ask you to double check the URL? I can not access it. It seems it is in maintenance mode. If you there is a need for new password and username please set the next reply as private.
I will create a copy of the website and report this to the second tier by the way.
