WPML

Overview of the Issue

In the WPML Translation Editor, when translating a post containing images with alt tags, users may notice two alt tag fields appearing for each image. This behavior occurs because WPML distinguishes between:

  1. Media Library alt Tags: The alt tag assigned to an image in the media library.
  2. Per-Post alt Tags: The alt tag assigned to an image specifically in a Gutenberg block within a post.

Both fields are expected to appear in the translation editor since they represent two distinct alt attributes.

Workaround

This issue is fixed in WPML Multilingual CMS 4.8.0. Updating solves it on your site, so you only need this workaround if you can’t update yet.

Update to WPML 4.8 or later and, in WPMLSettingsMedia Translation, turn on Automatically detect best options for translating image texts. Sites updated from an older version keep the old setting until you turn it on.
