The WPML 4.7 Release Candidate is now officially available for download, with the production release arriving in early February.
If you’re starting a new site, we recommend switching to this Release Candidate. It’s packed with exciting new features, giving you the opportunity to get familiar with the updates before the official launch in a couple of weeks.
What’s New in WPML 4.7

New Translation Dashboard
The redesigned Translation Dashboard is now your one-stop page for translating your entire site. Each content type has its own dedicated section, allowing you to easily search for the items you need to translate.
Simply select the items, choose your translation method, and send them for translation—all without the hassle of using the Translation Basket.
Simplified Translation of Texts (Strings) from Themes and Plugins
The new Other texts (Strings) section in the Translation Dashboard makes it easy to translate plugin and theme texts.
WPML automatically detects the strings you need when you browse your site in a secondary language and displays them under the Frontend (viewed) filter. From there, you can quickly send the relevant texts for translation.
Enhanced Advanced Translation Editor
WPML 4.7 introduces updates to the Advanced Translation Editor for a more user-friendly experience:
- Smarter Segmentation – Translate entire paragraphs as single segments instead of splitting them into sentences
- Grouped Content – Content is displayed just like in the WordPress editor, with the same order, names, and labels for easy identification.
Compatibility Plugins
To fully harness the power of improvements, you should use the Release Candidate versions of all major compatibility add-on plugins your site is using:
- WooCommerce Multilingual 5.4.0-rc.1
- ACF Multilingual 2.1.5-rc.1
- WPML SEO 2.1.1-rc.1
- Contact Form 7 Multilingual 1.3.2 production release

Coming Soon: Glossary Retranslation
The production version of WPML 4.7 will introduce Glossary Retranslation.
When you update your glossary, WPML will automatically retranslate all content impacted by the changes. All you need to do is push a button, and WPML handles the rest. No more manually tracking updates or worrying about overlooked pages or posts.
At launch, Glossary Retranslation will temporarily be free, with usage restrictions to prevent overloading the system. In a few weeks, we will introduce a minimal fee to cover system costs, and at that time, we will also lift usage restrictions.
Better Than Human Translation is Coming Too!
We’re in the final stages of testing Better Than Human Translation, WPML’s proprietary AI-powered technology that redefines translation quality. Together with WPML’s AI translation engine, it will provide translations so accurate that you won’t even need to review them.

How to Install WPML 4.7 Release Candidate
Installing WPML 4.7 Release Candidate on your site requires only a few simple steps:
- Go to your test site running the latest production version of WPML.
- Navigate to the Plugins page, click the Add New button, and then open the Commercial tab.
- Use the Update channel dropdown to select Beta, then click the Switch button in the dialog that appears.
- Install the Release Candidate version of WPML and any add-on plugins you’re using on this site.
With these steps, you can start exploring WPML 4.7 Release Candidate and its new capabilities today.

Users will be very very confused though when this drops, something to keep in mind and prepare for as you will get thousands of questions 😉
I just tried duplicating strings via the Translation Management, but a message shows saying “WPML does not support duplicating strings.”. I know it never has been possible, but then what is the point of adding them to the Translation Management?
Other than that it seems a cool new update and I will play around with it some more.

Hi, Pieter, thanks for the comment! Why do you think users will be “very very confused” with this update? Is there anything in the new interface that you find particulary confusing?
About strings… We added strings translation to the Translation Dashboard so that you can translate your whole site from one place and use one simple workflow – select content, send for translation, that’s it. No more navigating to other screens like String Translation and searching for strings there. Yes, duplication of strings is not supported (on purpose) but most of the users want to translate them, not duplicate them. And now they can do it from the Translation Dashboard. How come you would like to duplicate strings instead of translating them? What would you gain? Usually, if a string is not translated it will simply appear in the original language (English) so duplicating it makes no sense as the result would be the same.

As I said I think it is a great update.
The reason I said people will be confused is because I am not sure how many people read the announcement posts and so when they update and everything all of a sudden looks entirely different, there might be a surprise. But of course I could be way off the mark 🙂
I agree that most strings need to be translated, but sometimes duplication is desired.
Looking forward to get to work with the new interface when it drops.

Thanks Pieter, I understand what you mean! 🙂 We’ve put a lot of work into the new Translation Dashboard, making sure everything is as clear as possible and did a lot of testing, also with users. So, I believe changes will be clear and people will like the new workflow. We’ll know soon enough!
