We just released WooCommerce Multilingual 5.5.0! This major version brings better usability, improved performance, and a few new feature requests.

Highlights of WooCommerce Multilingual 5.5.0

Smarter Multi-currency Handling

We addressed a number of edge cases related to multi-currency filtering, sorting, and price calculations. As a result, you’ll notice:

  • More accurate filtering and sorting of products by secondary currency prices
  • Better handling of multi-currency shipping costs with rounding and taxes
  • Better price calculations and improved support for the WooCommerce Products addons
  • Clearer display of price ranges for variable products
  • Proper handling of grouped products set to show only custom-priced items

Improved Product Review Translation

Displaying translated product reviews is now more reliable. They now appear correctly in most scenarios, including alternative templates, duplicated products, and REST API integrations.

To send product reviews for translation, go to WPML → Translation Management, scroll to Other texts (Strings), select the wcml-reviews domain, and send the reviews you want for translation.

URL Translation for Downloadable Products

You can now customize the download URLs for each language version of a product.

In the Advanced Translation Editor, start typing “http” to quickly find and translate these URLs individually.

Performance Enhancements in the Admin

We’ve significantly optimized how WPML handles products and their variations in the backend.

This especially applies to saving products and product variations, which is now faster.

In our tests, saving a product with variations was, on average, 60% faster than before.

Twig Templates Phase-Out (Early Notice)

As previously announced, we’re preparing to discontinue support for Twig-based custom currency switchers.

While nothing changes in 5.5.0 itself, this release adds support for PHP-based switcher templates.

If your site uses Twig templates, we recommend starting the migration process soon. Need help? Reach out to our support team.

Update & Feedback

If you would like to update your site right away, please go to PluginsAdd New Plugin and click the Commercial tab. There, click the Check for updates button. WooCommerce Multilingual to 5.5.0 will become available, and you can update to this version.

Update today and let us know how it goes in the comments below!

  1. Hello,

I’m using WPML on my WooCommerce site and I have product reviews in multiple languages. Some of the reviews are translated using WPML.

What I would like to achieve is the following:

Show the translated version of the review depending on the current site language.

But keep the original flag next to the reviewer’s name, based on the language the review was originally written in (like 🇪🇪 for Estonian, 🇩🇪 for German, etc.),
even if the translated version is being shown.

This is how major marketplaces like Temu and AliExpress handle it. The translated text is shown, but the language flag reflects the original submission language.

Is this currently possible in WPML? If not, is there a workaround or any way to customize this behavior?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Hi! I just checked with our developers and right now, there is no way to do this directly. What we could do is create a hook that would allow you to use custom code to output the comments in the way you describe.

Would that be helpful? Are you able to custom code such a change on your site?
