WPML may collect technical information to improve support, but only if you allow it. Learn what’s shared, when, and how your data stays protected.

When you set up WPML on your site, you have the option to share certain technical information with wpml.org and the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE). This sharing is entirely optional – no data is shared unless you give your consent during the initial setup.

You can also change this at any time from the WPML → Settings page in your site’s WordPress admin.

What Gets Shared (If You Agree)

If you choose to share data, WPML will send only a small amount of technical information – never personal data. This includes:

  • Site key
A unique identifier that connects your site to your wpml.org account. It’s used to register WPML.
  • Site default language
Your site’s main language in which the original content is written in.
  • Site active languages
The full list of languages you’ve enabled on your site with WPML.
  • Website UUID
A unique, anonymous identifier we generate and use to link your site with the Advanced Translation Editor.
  • Shared key
A secure key used to communicate with the Advanced Translation Editor.
  • Content summary table, including:
    • The types of content on your site (e.g., Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types)
    • The number of posts per post type
    • The total number of characters across all content in the original language
    • Translation coverage per active language

Your Privacy Is Always Respected

We never collect personal data such as user names, emails, or content of your posts or pages. The shared data is purely technical and only goes to wpml.org and our Advanced Translation Editor systems. Nothing is shared with any third parties.

Why Share This Information?

Allowing WPML to access this technical data helps us support you better. Specifically, it enables us to:

  • Offer faster and more relevant support
We can understand your site’s setup more clearly and suggest solutions based on the plugins, themes, and language configuration you’re actually using.
  • Alert you to potential issues before they become problems
If we detect critical compatibility or security problems in third-party plugins or themes on your site, we can reach out and help you address them.
  • Improve translation features
We use the data to enhance the Advanced Translation Editor’s functionality, performance, and relevance to your specific content and language structure.

Sharing this information allows us to be more proactive, helpful, and accurate – all while keeping your personal data completely private.
