Elementor Custom Widgets
All issues in which we had to help clients with Elementor Custom Widgets either because they wanted to create one, or (more likely) when related to themes that have Elementor Custom Widgets integrated. Add whether you helped, sent to docs or escalated.
Problem: The client has translated two Elementor templates and single product extra content added through a WordPress widget, but they are not working. Solution: We added the following code to WPML-> Settings-> Custom XML tab to register the widget for translation:
After adding the code, we translated the widget strings via String Translation. We recommend checking the guide on registering admin strings for further details.

Problem: After adding custom code to functions.php to populate post grids in a second language, the 'Intro' field from Unlimited Elements Post Grid is not translating correctly and is pulling data from the original language post. Solution: We recommend the following steps to address the issue: 1. Navigate to WPML > Settings and temporarily switch to the Classical Editor. 2. Complete the translations that were problematic. 3. Return to WPML > Settings and switch back to the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE). 4. Continue and finish translating the post.

Problem: The client is unable to connect product categories to the correct links in a secondary language using Elementor's mega menu feature. The links remain in the default language after switching languages. Solution: We recommend using the Dynamic content option in Elementor. Go to Dynamic content > Internal URL > Select the category. Make necessary changes to the footer content and save these changes. Afterwards, update the translation to allow WPML to automatically adjust the internal URL when using the Elementor widget Icon List. For further guidance on translating menus, please refer to our documentation: Translating Menus.

Problem: The client created translations for a header and footer template in different languages, but when changing the language on the site, the translations do not appear and continue to display the English version. Solution: We recommend editing the template by making a small change to the content, saving it, and then updating the translation template to see if the text becomes available in the Advanced Translation Editor. If the issue persists, it may be due to the use of custom Elementor widgets that are not registered for translation. In this case, follow the steps to create custom XML configuration code to register these widgets for translation: How to Register Page Builder Widgets for Translation WPML Compatibility Test Tools Plugin

Problem: The client reported that despite translations being marked as complete, the 'Login / Register' strings in an Elementor custom widget were not reflecting on the front end. Solution: We resolved the issue by modifying the WPML settings to register the strings for translation. Here are the steps we followed: 1. Navigate to WPML -> Settings -> Custom XML tab. 2. Add the following code to register the strings for translation:
3. Edit the original header and add an empty space to prompt WPML to recognize that the translation needs an update. 4. Edit the translation of the header where the texts will now be available for translation.

Problem: You are developing a site using Elementor with WPML and want to auto-translate links in Elementor icon list items. Despite setting a glossary for the link and resending the page to auto translation, the link remains untranslated. Solution: 1. First, edit the translation of the page. In the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE), use the search option at the top left to find the URL. You can search for the entire URL or just a part of it. For more details, see Translating links with Advanced Translation Editor. 2. If the above step does not resolve the issue, follow these steps: - Go to WPML -> Settings -> Custom XML Configuration tab and paste the following code:
- Press the Save button. - Modify the original page slightly and press the Update button. - Update the translation via WPML's Advanced Translation Editor. - Re-open the translated page to check if the links are now translated.
