Background of the issue:
I changed to ATE but didn't enable the change for pages that were already translated with the CTE in fear of losing some translations. I am trying to edit a page on the CTE. Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link

Also I decided to change to the ATE because I was having a lot of formatting issues that only showed up on the live page (a lot of random <br> tags)

Symptoms:
What used to be a box with several editing options and a code tab is now just a text field with HTML.

Questions:
Can't I edit old translations on the CTE while having the new pages with the ATE?
Is there a way to change the editor on each old page gradually without having to delete the old translation and retranslating it with the new editor?

Hi,

Welcome to WPML support.

I will answer this ticket before the ticket is assigned to one of my colleagues.

Make sure, that in the WPML > Settings > Translation Editor you do not check the "Use also for old translations created with the classic editor" option.

That should force the old pages to use CTE. But for that specific page which you already edited you can not bring back CTE.

Thanks.

I didn't check that option.
So my issue is evern worse because some older translations are being opened with the advanced editor wen they shouldn't.

Hello,

thanks for getting back.

1) Do you maybe have a backup that you can revert to before doing the change? Since I am not sure what caused it or if mentioned checkbox was checked or not.

One way would be to re-enable back CTE editor and translate like that and then enable back ATE once done for new translation and continue like that.

2) We also have a similar know issue, but it happens only for specific post type, in this case products:

Let me know if this helps, and if not try to prepare staging site for us so we can further check the issue and try to help.

Thanks,
Drazen

Hi,

1) I did not check that checkbox, they should be preserved and classic.

When I open old translations done with the CTE most of them (either posts or pages) open with the ATE.

The only reason I'm trying to use ATE is because CTE is adding <br> tags randomly on text fields.

2) I used this on a staging site and its even weirder, now when I click to translate I'm redirected to the translations queue instead of opening the classic translator.

Hello,

thanks for getting back.

Please share access to staging site and 2-3 pages that should open in CTE but they do not, and I will check.

Drazen

Hello,

we have checked and can see in DB that some pages/ jobs where done in CTE, some in ATE and some in WordPress editor manually.

Other then examples shared above, do you except that all pages and posts open in CTE or? If so we can update this via DB, if that is what you expect.

Drazen

Hi

Yes I expect them for all to open with the CTE but with WYSIWYG options that have disappeared from when it opens with CTE which I couldn't find an example right now because everyone I try is opening with the ATE.

Thanks,

Hello,

thanks, I will share with our 2nd tier.

For WYSIWYG options, that is something different and if needed we will open new ticket for that issue and help further on that.

Drazen

Hi,

Ok thanks!

For the first problem will you test it first on the staging site and then give me the steps to do it on the live site's db or do you also need access to the live website?

For the WYSIWYG problem will you send me the link to the new ticket?

Thanks

Hello,

lets wait first to solve this issue then we can open new one.

Just to be clear, we checked and there where some pages /post that where edit / translated manually via WordPress editor, those are not going to be open in CTE. Only pages last edited with CTE / translated will open in CTE.

We need to run a SQL query directly on the database to update jobs with translations that were manually edited to change them to say they were last edited with CTE.

Let me know if you wish us to share a SQL query with you to try or if you wish we can apply it on live website for you, but make sure to have a backup just in case and share admin access with us.

Let me know.

Regards,
Drazen
