This has nothing to do with WPML, but I’m sure you’ll still like it. When I noticed what’s happening, I hardly believed it. Tried again and it really works. Chrome recognizes WordPress sites and uses their search feature!

Here’s a video that shows how it works:

This is what I’m doing:

  1. In Chrome, go to the address bar and type in the site’s URL
  2. Add a space
  3. Enter a search string. I typed in “wpml.org getting started”
  4. Chrome redirects me to the WordPress search URL: http://wpml.org/?s=getting+started&lang=en

From what I can tell, Chrome remembers my surfing history. Once I’ve run a search on a WordPress site, it understands that this is possible. Next time, I can do the search from the address bar, like it shows in that clip.

Tell me, is this working for you too?

  1. Hmm, it doesn’t seem to work on any of our WP-powered sites. And it only worked for WPML.org after I conducted a search on the site first and then tried to search from the address bar. Also got it to work for wpcandy.com. Pretty neat!

    • I tried it also on mashable.com and thenextweb.com. Chrome only knows how to do this trick after you run a regular WP search on the site. Only works if the site runs on the root URL, not in a sub directory.
