Upgrade to WPML GraphQL 1.1.0 to unlock powerful new features. This update includes full support for multilingual menus, individual post queries by ID or slug, and improved management of connected multilingual content throughout your site.

When we first released WPML GraphQL, we focused on delivering the essential features for building headless WordPress sites with multilingual support.

WPML GraphQL 1.1.0 takes it to the next level. Thanks to your valuable feedback, this release introduces exciting new features that enhance what WPML GraphQL can do.

Multilingual Support for Menus

The new version of WPML GraphQL introduces support for multilingual menus and menu items, allowing you to:

  • Filter menu queries by language or return menus in all languages
  • Access details about the language of each menu
  • List menu items in secondary languages
  • See which menu a menu item belongs to, even in other languages

All of this makes it easier to keep your site’s navigation accurate across all languages.

Better Management of Connected Content

Handling connected content in different languages becomes much easier with this release. Now, when you set the language for a top-level item, such as a category, all related content—like posts and tags—will automatically follow. This removes the need for manual adjustments.

For example, if you list a category and then query the posts under that category, WPML GraphQL will show those posts in the same language as the category. You can also chain these connections further: list categories, then posts within each category, and even tags related to those posts. The language consistency will apply throughout these levels.

The update also improves how you handle comments:

  • When you gather a post, WPML GraphQL will show comments in the same language as the post.
  • If you query comments directly, you can filter by language to get comments in a specific language, or comments associated with posts in a particular language.

Managing multilingual content becomes simpler, providing a consistent experience across all connected content.

Precise Post Queries by ID or Slug

With WPML GraphQL 1.1.0, you can query posts by their post ID or slug, regardless of the language they’re in.

For example, let’s say you have a post titled ¡Hola mundo! (a translation of the default Hello world!) with a slug hola-mundo and post ID 2. Running a PostBySlug or PostById query using these values will return the translated post.

This way, you can easily retrieve the precise content you want from across languages.

Other Fixes

WPML GraphQL 1.1.0 also addresses some bugs to enhance your overall experience:

  • Enhanced compatibility with PHP 8.3
  • Resolved redirection issues triggered by some fields
