Problem:
the client had not updated their WordPress installation for a long time and encountered issues when trying to activate an old version of WPML (3.8.3) after updating PHP, WordPress, and all plugins. The site crashed upon activation of the plugin, and the client was unsure whether to update directly to the latest version available on the WPML website (4.2.2) or follow another procedure.

Solution:
We recommended the client to update to the latest version of WPML. We proceeded to install the latest version of WPML for the client using FTP. After the installation, we asked the client to check if the issue was resolved by accessing their WPML languages settings page.

Please note that this solution might be irrelevant if it's outdated or not applicable to your case. If you're still experiencing issues, we highly recommend checking the related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket with us.

stefanL-17	Hello, I downloaded the latest version of WPML 4.6.9. I uploaded it via FTP and when i try to activate it it crashes my site. I deleted and tried again - but wordpress tells me that the plugin i causing an fatal error. So please what can I do? the latest version we were using was: 3.8.3 I also tried to upload the version 4.2.2, but it also crashes the site. in this article it says i have to upload the closes version? https://wpml.org/faq/how-to-safely-update-wpml-from-an-old-to-new-version/ but what works with my up to date wordpress 6.4.3? what should i do to have wpml working and all my translations back? thanks Alex

Happy publishing. */ part) define( 'WP_DEBUG', true); define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true); define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false); 2. Reproduce the issue - activate WPML 3. Locate the debug log in: /wp-content/debug.log 4. Paste the latest lines here. No need to paste the entire log file, just 20 lines or so will do. Please censor any sensitive information. This will tell us what exactly isn't working on any of the versions that you updated to.
