Overview of the issue

When using Elementor with WPML, you might experience the following issue: Custom CSS added at the page level via “Page Settings (the gear icon) > Advanced > Custom CSS” may be copied incorrectly to the translated page. Specifically, escaped Unicode characters like content: '\2794' are saved without the escape sequence content: '2794', resulting in incorrect rendering (e.g., showing 2794 instead of the arrow symbol).

Workaround

Instead of adding custom CSS at the page level, use one of the following alternatives:

At the widget level:

  • Edit the specific widget
  • Go to “Advanced > Custom CSS”
  • Add your CSS rule there

At the global level:

  • Go to “Appearance > Customizer > Additional CSS”
  • Add your CSS rule there

We are aware of this issue and our developers are working on a permanent fix.

  1. Hello!

While the translations are fine, all translated pages have a huge empty header and if this persists I need to cancel WOML.
Can you tell me exactly what to do? I am no pro and I am totally lost with this issue.

    • Hi Petra,
I don’t believe the issue is related to the escaped characters. Could you please check if the header has been translated as well?
Could you please to start a chat on our support forum, we’ll be happy to help you troubleshoot this issue.

  2. Hello,
I have the same problem with my Elementor pages.
The icons are no longer there on my translated pages. The backslash ‘\’ is also removed here.
I am currently writing the additional CSS into the widget, but that’s not a permanent solution. It still worked without any problems in WPML version 4.7… I hope this will be fixed soon!
    Best regards, Karsten

    • Hi Karsten,

Thanks for your feedback! For now, you can add the additional CSS to the WordPress Customizer if it’s more convenient. We’re aware of the issue and we’ll keep this page updated.

  3. Hi Nicolas,
Thank you for your reply. I have discovered that I can also enter it in Elementor in the website settings. It works here too.
I hope you find a solution to the problem soon.
    Best regards,
    Karsten
