WPML 4.7 Beta is now available for testing! This release includes a streamlined workflow for translating your entire site, major improvements to the Advanced Translation Editor, enhanced compatibility with all major plugins, and more.

Your feedback has always been the cornerstone of WPML’s development, and we’re inviting you to help us make WPML 4.7 our best version yet.

New Translation Dashboard – Translate Your Site Using One Simple Workflow

The completely redesigned Translation Dashboard becomes the only page you need to translate your entire site. Every type of content on your site now has a separate section where you can search for items you need to translate. 

Select your items, scroll down to select how to translate them, and send them for translation. No need to waste your time with the Translation Basket anymore.

Easy Translation of Texts (Strings) from Themes and Plugins

We’ve created a completely new Other texts (Strings) section that allows you to translate texts from other plugins and themes without leaving the dashboard.

Themes and plugins have many strings but usually, you need to translate only some of them. Now, all you have to do is:

  1. On the front-end, switch to a secondary language and visit the page with the texts you need to translate. WPML will automatically identify those strings and make them translatable.

  1. Return to the Other texts (Strings) section and select the Frontend (viewed) filter. This displays all the texts that WPML identified when you visited the front-end. You can safely send all these untranslated texts for translation.

That’s it! You no longer need to guess how to find strings or which domain they use. WPML does this work for you and provides you with just the strings you need, directly from the Translation Dashboard.

Advanced Translation Editor Is Even Better

WPML 4.7 leverages recent updates to Advanced Translation Editor, making it even more user-friendly: 

Smarter Segmentation

WPML will no longer (unless you prefer it to) break down paragraphs into separate sentences. Now, you can translate an entire paragraph as one single segment.

Content Grouped as in WordPress 

The Advanced Translation Editor now mirrors the content layout of the WordPress editor. It displays items in the same order and uses familiar names and labels from WordPress. This way, you can easily identify what you’re translating, making the process simple and intuitive.

You will especially appreciate this when translating content coming from popular plugins like Elementor, Yoast SEO, form plugins, and more.

Beta Updates for Compatibility Plugins

For you to see the full power of new features and improvements, we’ve prepared beta versions of our major compatibility plugins:

How to Install WPML 4.7 Beta

Installing WPML 4.7 Beta on your site is easy:

Go to your test site running the latest production version of WPML

Go to the Plugins page, click the Add New button, and then click the Commercial tab

Use the Update channel dropdown to select Beta and then click the Switch button in the dialog that appears

Install beta version of WPML and all addon plugins you’re using on this site

We recommend testing this beta only on test and staging sites!

Your Feedback Impacts WPML in a Big Way

Your input is invaluable to us. Here’s a short list of top requests and issues that we implemented in the last months thanks to your feedback:

  • You can now import and export glossary terms using CSV files
  • We fixed issues with broken paragraphs and line breaks on translated pages

  1. Great update, thanks for the work improving the translation flow.
    Quick question, does the beta fix issues mentioned earlier with AI translations, notably the English->German ? Is WPML AI ready to be used in a production environment? Are there any news regarding more language pairs and the translation assistant Maiya?

    • Hi, Chris, thank you, I’m glad you like the updates in WPML 4.7! About WPML AI automatic translation engine… A few days ago, we released a big update to it and now, German translations should be really good. We also fixed a bunch of small but important issues that were reported. And we also enabled translations from current languages to English (i.e. German > English, Spanish > English, etc.). That being said, I suggest to test it on a few pages and see that it works as you expect it. But I can tell you that we’re using it for translating our own sites to all these main languages and it works really, really good.

      I updated the original announcement with this information but we will soon make a separate announcement about this as well. We’re already working on more language pairs for the next update to WPML AI (including Dutch, Japanese, Greek, Chinese, and more).

    • Sorry, I forgot to mention the AI translation assistant Maiya – this feature is in the final stages of testing and should be ready for release in a few weeks (I don’t have a definite ETA at this time).

    Also have you guys thought about doing a Black Friday promo for AI translation credits? Could be a nice $$ boost and encourage wider adoption.

    • Thanks Chris! In general, we don’t do promotions, special deals, Black Fridays, and similar things. We believe in pricing WPML in a fair and sustainable way, and providing a good value for the price. But I know what you mean, and I will share the idea with the team. 🙂

    TESTING

    All native pages, including their layouts, have been successfully translated into English, except for the English landing page.

    I had to completely remove the English version of the landing page initially. Additionally, I had to adjust the Language URL format settings during the process.

    However, after saving the site permalinks twice, I was finally able to translate the landing page into English successfully.

    So far, so good!

The permalink issue doesn’t sound like something WPML would cause but if you think otherwise, please create a ticket in our support, specify that this was with the WPML 4.7 Beta and our supporters will prioritize this.   4. Is there already a release date for WMPL 4.7 Beta? And will the official 4.7 be an update to previous versions as well as to this Beta release or will you have to remove the Beta first?
    I am fairly new to WordPress and Woocommerce and in the middle of moving our shop from Prestashop to Woocommerce. I had to start all over with WMPL a few times now and this Beta sounds like a big step forward for those just starting with translations and getting lost in all the possible ways to translate and f.ck up in the end:-):-)

    • Hi, Howard! We don’t yet have a fixed release date for WPML 4.7 production version. We’re collecting feedback and doing final testing and polishing. Don’t worry about this update, if you have a site(s) running current (or previous) WPML versions, nothing will reset or be lost after updating to WPML 4.7 stable release. All your translations, settings, and content will stay intact. Also, we’ve made sure to implement messages and notices that will clarify or update you if anything relevant to your workflow has changed. In any case, for now, use the stable version on your production site(s) and test WPML 4.7 Beta only on test/staging sites. If you have any other concerns about this, feel free to open a ticket in our support. Our supporters will be happy to clarify any question you have.

  6. So still no way to do a glossary translation and get previously wrongly translated words fixed without having to translate everything again? This was said to be possible in this version.

    • Hi, Amber, thanks for a great question! The feature you’re describing – Glossary Retranslation – will be available in WPML 4.7, but we are still doing some final testing before we can roll it out for everyone. But no worries, the feature is ready and once confirmed and live, we will specifically announce it – most probably as a part of the WPML 4.7 production release announcement.

  7. Is there a release date yet? I have a bug with elementor and it seems the workaround proposed works with the new wpml version

    • Hi, Anastasia! I’m sorry but I don’t have an exact release date yet for the production release of WPML 4.7. We’re planning to release second beta version towards the end of January. Then, depending on how final testing with the second beta goes, we’ll know better when 4.7 will be ready for production. What issue are you facing and how does WPML 4.7 (beta) solve it?

    I am wondering if the beta has this resolved?

    “When you use the new glossary import feature, you should be able to update the existing terms that are already in your glossary. This is what I was referring to in this comment thread. It only refers to the terms inside your glossary, it has nothing to do with the content on your site.”

    In other words can I install the beta and retro translate words from the glossary?

    • Hi, Jasper, thanks for the question! No, the Glossary Retranslate feature is not yet available in this beta. That feature will only become available once the final, production version of WPML 4.7 is released. However, this should be quite soon. If all goes well, WPML 4.7 (along with the Glossary Retranslate) should be released in the coming weeks (I cannot provide an exact date).
