Resolved

Resolved in: WPML 4.6.7

Overview of the issue

If you previously installed Toolset on your site with an active subscription, then removed it, you may see the following warning on your Dashboard: Toolset plugin cannot connect to toolset.com

Toolset warning on Dashboard

This happens as it can’t fetch an active subscription and there are still existing details in your database.

Workaround

Please follow this workaround:

  1. Make sure to make a complete backup of your site, files, and database before proceeding.
  2. Go to PHPMyAdmin, open the wp_options table, and delete the wp_installer_settings key.
  3. Go to your list of registered sites, and copy your registration key.
  4. Go to the list of installed plugins on your site and click on the Registered link below WPML.
  5. Click on Unregister WPML from this site.
  6. Re-register with the copied registration key.

    • Hello there,
Your PHPMyAdmin is the section in your hosting which allows you to manipulate your database. The idea is that you access to it and modify your database accordingly.
I you don’t have access, I recommend you to contact your hosting provider, they will help you immediately.
      Regards

  1. Im having the same problem. I already found wp_options table on phpmyadmin but can’t find the wp_installer_settings key. What to do?

    • Hey there,
As we are discussing in the forum ticket, if you don’t need our Toolset plugin, you just need to uninstall.
Please follow the ticket, we have better tools to help you there in case something is wrong.
      Regards

  2. I have to say that it is absolutely ridiculous to have to go through this ordeal to get rid of the message. Deactivation is one thing, but upon removal of a plugin it should not show anything in the Dashboard anymore, period, not open for discussion.

And what is worse is that you’re pushing to install Toolset in the WPML installation procedure. The amount of sites I encounter where people have Toolset installed without even knowing what it is, let alone using it!

I urge you to review this bad practice and simply making sure that upon plugin deactivation and deletion it also cleans up its database tables and entries in other tables!

  3. I have gone through all of the above steps, but no change. I still have both the WPML and Toolset error messages shown above my list of plug-ins that the servers cannot be reached. I will probably open a separate ticket so that I can supply additional information.

    • Hello!
If the issue still persists, there might be a server problem.
As you said, it is better to open a ticket in our support forum, so that our support experts can check the situation and if possible to advise on a possible alternative.
