If you have updated to WordPress 5.5 and are seeing JavaScript errors coming from WPML, these quick releases should fix it for you.

The recent WordPress 5.5 update deprecated support for jQuery Migrate, which resulted in issues for many WordPress users. We released WPML 4.3.19 and WCML 4.10.2 to fix any potential issues. These releases fix jQuery warnings and calls to deprecated jQuery functions.

Besides WPML, many other plugins and themes have also released updates that address this issue. Please be sure to update WPML and check for updates from the rest of your plugins and themes to solve it.

Install and Update

If you have not received the WPML and WCML updates automatically yet, you can go to the Plugins → Add New page. Click the Commercial tab and then click the Check for updates button.

You can also download the plugins manually from your WPML account’s Downloads page.

  1. So, when I have an old bought WPML version which i haven’t renewed, I am forced to buy a new version that my sites keep running? Are you kidding?

  2. After updating WPML as explained on your page on my websites with my Freelancer licence, but unfortunately still the error though the “jQuery Migrate Helper” plugin of the WP team:

    /wp-content/plugins/wpml-translation-management/res/js/scripts.js: jQuery.browser is deprecated

    • Hi Arjan – Thanks for your comment. That particular error message is safe to ignore. The issue shouldn’t cause any issues with using WPML.

  3. This problem appears to me on my site, and I already updated wpml. What do you think?

jQuery Migrate Helper – Warnings encountered
This page generated the following warnings:

    https://yiod-ye.com/wp-content/plugins/wpml-translation-management/res/js/scripts.js: jQuery.browser is deprecated
    https://yiod-ye.com/wp-content/plugins/wpml-translation-management/res/js/scripts.js: jQuery.browser is deprecated
Please make sure you are using the latest version of all of your plugins, and your theme. If you are, you may want to ask the developers of the code mentioned in the warnings for an update.

  4. Still get a warning by the jQuery Migrate Plugin:

    – /wp-content/plugins/wpml-translation-management/res/js/scripts.js: jQuery.browser is deprecated

My Version of WPML Translation Management is 2.9.11. Could you please fix this plugin too. Thank you.

  5. Sorry, I should read other comments first. -> Duplicate.
But it would still be nice if you could fix it. The error box by the jQuery Migrate Plugin cannot be dismissed and is displayed on every page in the admin-area.

    • Hi Felix – Please be sure all your plugins and your theme are also updated, as this issue affected more than just WPML. If you still need assistance, please reach out to our support team with more details so they can look into it for you!

  6. Yes, all plugins are updated (all, theme too), this is a big mistake in your plugin with WordPress 5.5 latest version, as big as broke websites. I solve it deleting the id element on _icl_translations table in database (The id identified as “problem”, in my case need to delete 2 ones), the thing is if won´t happen again…

In general shpuld be more careful wirh there is WordPress and Woocmmerce updates to release a properly update of your plugin without this critical errors which cost money in a store!
