The SDL Language Cloud connector for WPML provides a seamless link between WPML and SDL Language Cloud, allowing fast and easy management of multilingual web content and translation projects from within WordPress.

Getting started with SDL Language Cloud and WPML

To send content for translation to SDL Language Cloud, install the following plugins on your website:

  • WPML Multilingual CMS – the core plugin
  • WPML String Translation – this plugin will allow you to translate interface strings

You can download them from your wpml.org account. If you do not have an account yet, you can create a new one by choosing WPML Multilingual CMS or Multilingual Agency plans.

Working with SDL Language Cloud via WPML

Here are the basic steps of working with WPML and SDL Language Cloud. For a full walkthrough, check out our page about using WPML with a translation service.

Connecting Your Website to SDL Language Cloud

First, you need to connect WPML with SDL Language Cloud. Part of this very simple process is to request your SDL Language Cloud username and password.

NOTE: If you are a new SDL customer, please refer to the updated version of this documentation.

If you are an existing SDL customer, these are the credentials you use to login to SDL Language Cloud at . If you do not have these, please contact your SDL account team.

If you do not have an SDL account yet, you can simply sign up for free. It’s quick and simple and you’ll be set up in minutes. You can then use the same details to activate and authenticate your account in WPML.

Sending content for translation

Once your site is connected to SDL Language Cloud, you can start sending your content for translation.

Receive a quotation from SDL Language Cloud

You must now finish the configuration in SDL. To do that, click the Translation Jobs tab at the top of the page and the list of all jobs you have sent for translation will appear. The content of the basket you submitted should be visible at the top of the list. Click the job’s name to open SDL Language Cloud.

SDL workflow can differ depending on your configuration. You should discuss with your SDL Account team how to process translations in your SDL Language Cloud.

Receiving completed translations

Once done, your site is ready to receive completed translations.

Canceling translation jobs

Log in to SDL to cancel a job.

Translating the Rest of Your Site

Once you’re done translating the content of your page, there could be untranslated texts in menus, sidebars, and similar places. No problem, you can use SDL Language Cloud to translate the rest of your site.
