With the recent release of WPML 4.5 and the new Translate Everything mode, more of our clients are using automatic translation than ever before. We have updated the pricing for automatic translation to make it more predictable and fair.
We also just released WPML 4.5.5, which includes changes related to this new pricing. Please be sure to update to 4.5.5 for the best experience.
WPML’s automatic translation feature is a convenient way to translate your site quickly, easily, and affordably. And with the new Translate Everything Automatically mode, WPML can now translate all of your site’s content automatically in the background.
WPML currently offers two ways to pay for automatic translation:
Pay-as-you-go allows you to automatically translate your site’s content, then pay for those translations at the end of the month.
Before, we calculated the price you paid based on a number of set pricing tiers. This meant you might end up paying a much higher price if you crossed into a higher tier by just a few credits. With the new pricing, we want to make the new pricing fair and accurate for all users, no matter how many credits they use.
The new pricing lets clients pay exactly for what they’re using, without any wasted credits at the end of the month. Instead, WPML measures how much you actually translated every month and charges for just that. Plus, the more you translate in a month, the cheaper the price is per credit.
Also, you still get the first 2,000 credits for free every month.
Now, you get an invoice that more accurately reflects the number of credits you actually used and won’t leave you feeling like you’re wasting unused credits.
You can estimate the costs for using automatic translation on your site with our new pricing calculator.
What Happens for Clients with Existing Automatic Translation Accounts
Clients with existing automatic translation accounts can continue to use our legacy pricing. This is calculated according to fixed pricing tiers rather than per-word granularity.
If you’re happy with this pricing model, you can keep it. If you wish to move to the new pricing model, you need to stop paying as you go and sign up again. Please note, it’s not possible to return to the legacy pricing after switching to the new pricing.
Check out our new pricing calculator to see if the new pricing might be beneficial for you.
If you’re translating your own site, the pay-as-you-go option is the easier and more affordable option. It allows you to simply enter your credit card information and translate as you need – no worrying about running out of credits or needing to assign credits to your site.
Purchasing prepaid packages of credits is better if you’re developing multilingual sites for clients and want greater control over your spending per site. Though prepaid packages are more expensive, they allow you to set a hard spending limit by assigning each site a set number of credits. These prepaid packages are available in the following amounts (these amounts are staying the same as before):
40,000 credits for $50
200,000 credits for $180
Let Us Know What You Think
As automatic translation continues to become a more popular option, this price change allows us to continue providing an affordable way for clients to create multilingual sites. Please leave us a comment below and let us know what you think!
52 Responses to “New Pricing for Automatic Translation”
Hi there, and what’s about the ones that have a lifetime version? It will be upadated to this version? Or is this a different product?
Best regards
Hi Cristina – Automatic translation is independent from your WPML account. You must sign up for automatic translation separately if you want to use it. You can read more here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/
Maybe I don’t understand something. But the new cost is 3 times higher than the old one. What is my benefit?
Hi Mikhail – If you already have an automatic translation account, you can continue using the old pricing if you wish to. The old automatic translation pricing was based on pricing tiers – no matter where you fell in the tier, you paid the same amount. This new pricing is per credit. This means you only pay for the credits you actually used. Plus, the price-per-credit decreases the more you translate in a single month.
Thank you for your answer. Is there any demo? some way to check the new application? How it works…
Hi, I just received the invoice to pay, and I used less than 2000 credits in the last month.
Who can I speak with?
Hello, this charge shouldn’t have happened and was caused by a bug and we apologize for the inconvenience it caused. We are fixing this issue and will shortly refund you for this amount and we will add 10,000 free credits to your account as a compensation.
Hello,
Thank you for sharing this with us.
I believe the new pricing system is more expensive and unnecessary.
If a website uses 1 million credit he is going to be charged all the before tiers hence pay a lot more than the legacy system!
I would personally prefer to use Prepaid credit but I don’t get the idea why is it even more expensive than the pay to go system.
If i use prepaid it should he cheaper? Since i am paying before receiving the credit.
I believe if the prepaid credit was repriced fairly it would be great and will save all of us a lot of time.
There can even be a prepaid custom credit
If i want to buy 1,400,000 prepaid credit why not?
Hi Abdullah – Thank you for your comment. If you already have an automatic translation account, you can continue to use the legacy pricing if you want to. Currently we only offer prepaid packages in two amounts: 40,000 credits and 200,000 credits, but thank you for your feedback about offering custom amounts. With the new pricing model, you’re paying per credit, not per pricing tier or package, so it really customizes the amount based on the specific amount you translate.
Can I ask what it is that you prefer about prepaid credits? Paying as you go is actually the quickest way to translate automatically because you don’t have to assign credits to any of your sites or purchase more credits when you run out.
Hello Alison,
Thank you for your reply.
I would like to see prepaid credit cheaper than any other form of credit and this makes sense financially.
Instead of WPML waiting for one month to recive payment for the credit i used, you will get paid eariler which allows wpml to:
– Eliminate the risk of customers use credit and not paying.
– Have extra cash that you can put in bank and collect interest.
For me as a publisher and an agency I prefer prepaid because:
– It will be cheaper for me.
– I can allocate credit to every website i have beforehand.
– I have partners with me so paying before i translate is good for me as it eliminate the risk one of the partners doesn’t pay me.
And for these reasons I really really don’t get why WPML doesn’t make prepaid packages more appealing!
I mean it’s logical, more customer friendly and more profits for WPML.
Thanks very much for your feedback, Abdullah. I will share your comment with the rest of the team.
Not at all,
Please let me know what the team thinks about this issue whenever you could.
Best regards
I am happy that the pay as you go credits don’t expire any more, but of course a less happy that they are now 3x more expensive.
I agree with Abdullah that it doesn’t make sense any more that the prepaid credits are more expensive. It did make kind of sense with the old pay as you go because you (wpml) couldn’t earn on unused and expired credits with prepaid, but that isn’t the case any more if pay as you go don’t expire.
Thanks for your comment, John-Pierre. I’ll include your feedback along with Abdullah’s.
Hello Allison,
I agree with Abdullah as well, it will be really difficult to manage customer credits. Is there a simple way to see how many credits each customer has spent in the month and since the beginning of their addition in WPML?
And it’s true that it’s complete nonsense that purchased credit packs are more expensive than pay-per-use.
Best regards,
Hi Marc – Thank you for sharing your feedback. You can generate automatic translation usage reports by going to WPML → Translation Management and clicking the Automatic Translation tab. Click Payment & Settings and expand the Automatic translation usage reports section. Or, you can view past pay-as-you-go invoices in the Invoices section, which details the number of credits used during the month.
I also want to add to my previous reply that prepaid credit eliminates any technical headache.
I have contacted the support due to some outstanding credit that i should have paid but the bill never came.
And i was wondering that month why i never got billed.
Now if I didn’t pay attention and tried to pay WPML, this credit will be free credit i used. A loss for WPML.
Prepaid just solve all of this suffering and makes everyone happy.
I received the service charge (2.98 USD) for the use of 0 credits.
I have the charge on my credit card.
What do I have to unsubscribe to not use this service and not be charged again?
Hello, this happened by mistake and we are going to fix it. We will issue a refund and add a 10k credits compensation. We apologize for this. Please send me your invoice number – the number you see on your invoice. It should be something like this: ATE-135111. Thank you.
You just charged me $2.98 without me using any credit. “During the last month, you used 0 credits automatically. Your payment was 2.98 USD.” Something doesn’t make sense to me…

Why you are charging your old customers for not using automatic transalation? I have not agreed to any monthly payments and this kind of charges wihout agreement is illegal in European Union!

Thanks for sharing this information. I recently use automatic translation and I’m glad.
Great! Glad to hear you’re happy with it.
All in all it’s too expensive, it feels like you – as just the proxy of the translation service – surcharging way too much.
Hi Matthias – Thanks for your feedback. WPML is more than simply a proxy for these automatic translation services. It has integrated automatic translation as part of an Advanced Translation Editor that also includes translation memory (so you’re not charged for content you’ve already translated), a spell checker, a glossary, and more. Plus, we run it on our servers, so your site doesn’t take the performance hit. All this architecture takes time, effort, and money to develop and run, which is why it costs more than a simple proxy service.
I want to buy 3 website plan. What extra I need to pay ?
$99 for plugin plus automatic translation right.
Do I need to get API or you will get it done.
Do I need to take access of Google or other services also.
Request WPML team to clear my doubts.
Hello,
if you plan to use automatic translations you might need to buy extra credits depending on how big your site is. You will get 90 000 translation credits for free (1 credit = 1 word if you use Microsoft Asuze translation engine, 1 word = 2 credits if you use Google Translate and 1 = 3 credits if you use DeepL – this calculator will help: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
You don’t need to get/set up any API for using the translation engines because the three I mentioned are already integrated. You can choose which one will be your default. Google Translate gets the priority by default but you can change this in your settings.
Hello – There is no API necessary to use automatic translation with WPML. You can either purchase a package of credits and assign them to your site, or you can sign up for pay-as-you-go. You can read about both options and estimate the cost of automatically translating your site here: https://wpml.org/documentation/automatic-translation/automatic-translation-pricing/
Ok Thanks
I have purchased my plan.
One more thing I am confused If I choose a country for Url change only like Australia au but I don’t want to use current content. what to do in that case
DeepL is available for 24 Languages, Can I choose different translating services for different languages. Suppose I choose DeepL and I need to translate more than 24 languages or a language that is not in DeepL, in that case for the additional language I need to use other options like google. I am asking this because I want to use DeepL for its few languages as it is better but same time I need to translate into languages that are not in DeepL.
Hello – You can see which languages WPML’s automatic translation supports for each translation engine here: https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs

Hello – You can see which languages WPML’s automatic translation supports for each translation engine here: https://ate.wpml.org/mt_langs
It’s not possible to set different translation engines per language, but you can set a preferred order. This means you can set automatic translation to use DeepL by default.
