Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate a page using WPML. The issue is visible on both the production site kovarskesympozium.cz and the development site kovarskesympozium.lusp.dev. I can provide login details for the development site if needed.
Symptoms:
I’m seeing broken characters (like “x?Ž…”) in titles, custom fields, and media entries in the translation editor.
Questions:
Could you please advise how to fix the broken characters issue?
Thanks for your reply. I'm Kor and I'll be taking over from here. Could you please restore the site so that I can check the issue? When I inspected your Website here hidden link , I'm getting another issue with the Advanced Translation Editor not opening.
I've enabled the private reply option for you just incase you'd like to update the credentials.
I've checked your Website here hidden link and I can see it's broken as shown in the attached screenshot. So, it would be best if you could restore the site to an earlier state where it displays correctly, so that I can check the issue for you.
Thanks for your reply. I can see the issue now. I can't seem to solve it using the method here https://wpml.org/faq/texts-showing-as/ . I kindly ask for a snapshot of the site. Alternatively, with your permission, I can create one myself. For this purpose, I typically recommend using the free plugin "Duplicator." If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.
To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:
1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link
3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.
Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.
Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.
Thanks for your patience. The report still shows “waiting for release,” which suggests the fix wasn’t included in version 4.8.2. I’ll keep monitoring and update you as soon as I have more information.
