Background of the issue:
I have imported products from another website in two languages, English (Main) and Dutch (Secondary), on my site hidden link. I am trying to ensure that both language versions are correctly imported.

Symptoms:
When opening 'All products', it is showing the translation as 'update the translation' on almost all products. In my opinion, this should be finished because we have imported both languages.

Questions:
Why are the product title translations not importing correctly?
How can I ensure that the translations are marked as complete after import?

Hi,

Welcome to WPML support. I will answer this ticket before it is assigned to one of my colleagues.

Would you please give us more detailed information on which plugin you used alongside with WPML import/export to do the import?

If you used the default importer of Woocommerce please check if the errata below is applicable:

https://wpml.org/errata/woocommerce-built-in-import-feature-does-not-update-prices-for-product-translations/

also I wonder if the translations work or not? I mean despite the fact that the item shows need update, does the front end show the translation correctly?

Thanks.

I just used the regular WordPress CSV importer.

Translations work, the frontend shows it correctly.

No problem!

The site is ready to go. I already have set up WPML with the necessary languages and integrated all essential plugins.

You only need to run the import and let me know if you can replicate the issue.

As you say you use the default WordPress Importer while you refer to "Products":

Have you already tried the WooCommerce Export and Import options?
(you will need to use the same method for export and import)

Thank you for providing the import file!

Here is how you proceed:

1) Make sure the required language setup is met in WPML > Languages

2) Go to WPML Export & Import and configure the import method

3) Run your import

4) Go to WPML Export & Import and complete the migration

This seems to have worked as expected on my current test. Also the product titles seem to be importeed correclty. Please take a look at the test site.

---

In your case, you are using the WooCommerce method to export & import.

We have a known issue with this method when trying to import product variations:
https://wpml.org/errata/wpml-export-and-import-issues-with-importing-product-variations/

You will need to download the file mentioned inside the errata, upload it to /wp-content/plugins, and activate this patch plugin before running the import.

Hi Andreas,

I see, but the products in the sandbox are listed as seperate products while on our main site it is listed as one product (see added image) but this does not seem to be a possibility than.

I am not fully sure, which behavior you are expecting.

WPML will create one product per language and connect them so that you can use the language switcher to switch between languages.

Translation:
Dutch: hidden link

Original:
English: hidden link

This works as expected on the sandbox.

If you have a different behavior on your site, maybe you did not follow the correct workflow or a third plugin is causing a conflict.

Could you please create a staging site and try running it with a minimal setup to see if the issue persists?

1) Deactivate any additional plugins that are unrelated to WooCommerce, WPML and our add-ons. Try to import again now. Can you still experience unexpected behavior?

2) If the issue goes away, start reactivating plugins one at a time or activate them in small groups while running new imports between each step. This way, check where the issue recurs to identify the plugin causing the issue.

3) If this doesn't resolve the issue, please switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty-One to see if the issue might be theme-related.

Once we identify the cause, we can then attempt to replicate the issue and then escalate it internally. I will provide a test site with WPML in this case.

If you are unable to set up a copy of your website, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you.

My apologies, the shop was currently hidden from visitors. You can see the products now.

Here is a login link to a new sandbox:

Could you please give it a test and let me know if you can recreate the issue on this test site?

If you can recreate the issue, please provide the exact steps you are taking. If you can not confirm the issue there, I can offer to take a closer look at your site as an admin user to take a closer look at the setup.
