This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is using WPML for Pages in Spanish and Portuguese and wants to start using it for Blog posts. They are migrating blogs from separate subdomains into a single domain and are interested in knowing if they can use WPML in a hybrid mode where some Spanish blog posts are translations from an English blog, while others are created directly in Spanish.
Solution:
We confirmed that it is possible to use WPML in a hybrid mode for managing blog posts. The client can create posts directly in Spanish without needing an English version for every post. This approach allows for flexibility where not every Spanish post has to be a translation of an English post, and both methods can coexist without issues. It is also important to ensure that the URL structure and taxonomies are correctly configured for each language to maintain consistency and support SEO efforts across the multilingual site.

If this solution does not resolve your issue, or if it seems outdated or irrelevant to your specific case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. Background of the issue:
We have WPML installed and use it for Pages in Spanish and Portuguese. We want to start using it for Blog posts. We have a blog in English at hidden link that we are migrating from hidden link. We also have a Blog in Spanish that we would like to migrate from hidden link.

Symptoms:
No specific issue or error message mentioned.

Questions:
Can we use WPML in a hybrid mode where some blog posts in Spanish come from an English blog translation, and others are created directly under hidden link?
Is it a problem if not all the blogs in Spanish are a translation of blogs in English?
What is the downside of using WPML in this hybrid mode?

Hi there,

This is Paola, and I hope you’re doing well!

To clarify your question: Are you asking if you can have a mix of posts on your Spanish blog—some that are translations of your English posts and others created directly in Spanish?

Yes you can do it. You can create posts directly in a secondary language (in this case, Spanish) without having an English version for every post. Additionally, if you ever need to translate a post later, WPML allows you to add that translation seamlessly. This flexibility means that not every Spanish post must be a translation of an English post, and both approaches can coexist without causing any issues.

Moreover, ensuring that your URL structure and taxonomies are configured correctly for each language will help maintain consistency and support SEO efforts across your multilingual site.

Let me know if you need any more details or further clarification!
