Free security-only updates available
If your account has expired, we still want you to receive security updates. We are offering the recent security update to all accounts. To receive your security update, log in to your account and click on Downloads.
Please note that without a valid account you will not have access to our support or to automated updates in the WordPress admin. You will also not have continuous updates to new versions, including updates for new WordPress versions.
We’ve recently responded to exploit reports in WPML by releasing a major security update. Fortunately, our update came before these exploits became public and most webmasters have succeeded updated WPML on their sites. This update is available for clients with valid accounts. We’ve noticed that there is a group of expired accounts which is running older versions of WPML, which need to be secured too. This week, we are running a special discount, which allows people with expired accounts to upgrade and receive these updates ‘at cost’.
Updating from very old versions of plugins can be a pain. We know and appreciate this. However, we’re certain that getting hacked can cause an even bigger headache. We are offering everyone who previously bought from us and has an expired account, to upgrade their accounts and receive security updates, at a 50% discount. Normally we don’t run sales, promotions, black Friday deals, etc. We believe in one fair price for everyone, always. However, in this special situation, we want to make sure that everyone who ever bought from us has an affordable access to security updates.
To facilitate this major upgrade, the entire WPML team will be on support work. This includes our support team, developers and theme compatibility. We’ll hold off with planned development for a few days, to make sure that every client who needs assistance with this update receives it in a timely manner.
Of course, we’re not too happy to be in the center of this ‘panic mode’, but this is life. You do your very best always, but sometimes there are glitches. Our responsibility to our clients and to the entire WordPress ecosystem is to respond to security issues immediately and make sure that clients are always protected.
We’re sending email reminders to all clients with expired accounts. These emails include exact instructions on how to upgrade with the discount and get their sites updated. Please, be sure to create full backup of your sites before any updates. Also, remember to update not only WPML but WordPress, your theme and any plugins that are outdated.
Who can upgrade with this offer?
Anyone with an old and expired account, either Multilingual Blog or Multilingual CMS, can take this offer. All upgrades are to the Multilingual CMS Lifetime option.
How long will this offer be available?
The special discount will expire on April 20th 2015 has now expired. We offer free security upgrades to everyone, so you don’t need to pay anything to get it. We urge you not to wait for the last day for this. We’ve created this offer as a response to a security update and we want to see all WPML sites updated as soon as possible. Waiting for the last minute is not recommended. Get the update today and protect your sites ASAP.
How to take up this upgrade offer?
To take advantage of this special discount, if you have an expired WPML account, first, log in. Then, our system will detect that you have an old expired account and will offer you an upgrade at 50% cost. This is only available from within your WPML account.
Once you upgrade to a Lifetime account, you will be able to download new versions with the recent security fixes. When you update WPML, be sure to update all WPML components that you use. If you are running older sites, we strongly recommend to make sure that everything is updated. This should include WordPress, your theme and all plugins (including WPML). Remember that almost everything you use received security updates recently.
We’ve listed detailed instructions for first-time installs, manual updates and automated updates in WPML installation FAQ page.
If you have questions, concerns and other ideas, leave your comments and we’ll get back to you.
I just recieved this as an email – and I’m pissed…
This just looks like a smart way to get my money.
What you are saying is: “If you don’t buy this upgrade your site will be hacked”
Fuck you so much – I will immidiately go look for a replacement
Never again WPML!
I understand how you feel and I’m sorry to see that this is how it appears to you. We were hoping that a major discount on a Lifetime account would help people (like you) and not upset them. If you feel badly about this, please don’t upgrade your account. We see it as our responsibility to provide security updates for people who used WPML before and we were hoping that this arrangement will be helpful. If it isn’t we’ll work out a different method to deliver ONLY security updates without additional updates and support.
Dear Peter,
free security updates are available now.
Please log into your WPML account and go to the ‘Downloads’ section. You will find the ‘WPML CMS Security update’ or ‘WPML Blog security update’ package, depending on the subscription you have.
To update your WPML plugins follow the instructions
https://wpml.org/faq/install-wpml/
– And absolutely no details about the security exploit
So two options:
– Uninstall VPML
– Upgrade
We cannot publish details about security exploits until everyone had the chance to update WPML on their sites.
Given the situation, I think this is reasonable solution.
I appreciate what a value WPML is overall, and I know that security exploits happen and are out of your control. I remember how much work it was to build multilingual websites before WPML, and recognize what a bargain it is already! Thanks for keeping it a great product.
Thanks a lot for your support and understanding.
At this moment in time, I can’t afford upgrade – even with your discount.
To be honest, I was disappointed with your support:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/the-languagecurrency-switcher-is-not-working-properly/
I had a ticket that was not resolved and eventually my subscription expired.
Thank you for your feedback. We’ll see how to arrange security-only updates.
I have to agree with KamS. I let my sub expire because support was poor and solutions to bugs and incompatibilities were promised but never delivered.
This is a catalyst for uninstalling your product, not giving you more money.
98% of our support threads complete OK, but that’s no excuse for your support thread going wrong. Do you have a link to the problem support thread?

I didn’t renew because I only used WPML for one client and this isn’t going to be a product I ever need again as my business has a different focus now. So, basically, this website that I built 2 years ago is now likely to get hacked unless I spend 80 dollars… which I’m not going to do because it’s not my site. And the client isn’t going to either, as it’s just a small website and they don’t spend any money on it.
If I needed your product on a regular basis, then a half-price license would be great. But as I don’t, I think that you should allow me to install a security update to the version I have. Seems only fair.
You have a good point. We’ll be offering a security-update-only for everyone. However, it will not include automated updates or support. These are tied into our system and we cannot open them to expired accounts. So, if you need to do a manual update of WPML for that past client of your, would you do it? (even if you don’t need to pay for WPML)
I’d be happy to manually install a security update just to keep this site safe, as long as it is fairly quick and painless (the client isn’t going to pay for this to be done, naturally!). Thanks
We’ll arrange it in the next couple of days. I don’t want there to be any sites that use our plugins and have security problems. Support costs us money and we cannot give it for free. We can provide the recent security update as a ZIP file for manual update. I’ll get our devs to add it to the account system and will update this post when it’s ready.
Dear tson,
free security updates are available now. Please log into your WPML account and go to the ‘Downloads’ section. You will find the ‘WPML CMS Security update’ or ‘WPML Blog security update’ package, depending on the subscription you have.
To update your WPML plugins follow the instructions

Same here, in exact same position. I can’t believe that an established plugin publisher like you haven’t considered security only update route. Were you pining for the fjords and miss the way Microsoft handles updates for the last three DECADES?!
If you do not offer security only update and force us to pay you, I will see that as being hold to ransom and do my best to make sure your (current) tactics are rediculed the Net oever.
Dear Riz, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Any feedback is appreciated. As we have already said, we will be giving free security-only updates to people with expired accounts. Our developers are currently working on this.

I agree @tson’s point of view. I am in a similar position and I am not interested to spend $90 dollars for something that is your responsibility.
In my humble opinion, you WPML should offer a free alternative to fix this vulnerability you are reporting and not put your users in the middle, thumbs down.
(At least, if you have offered a discount on the cheapest plan, I may re-consider it.)
We will be offering free security-update-only tomorrow for everyone. This update will come without support and automated installation.
BTW, just to set the record straight, we are LOSING A LOT OF MONEY with this discount, but it’s fine and we’re happy with it.
Our stats tell us that the vast majority of people who have expired accounts eventually upgrade to a Lifetime account. They do it for different reasons (need to get upgrades for new WordPress versions, looking for new features, need support, etc.).
What we’re doing now is selling the same product at 1/2 of its value. Over the next month, we are prepared to lose a lot of revenue with this discount. We are not sorry for it and we are not going to discontinue the discount. We will be offering the security-update as soon as we technically can, hopefully by tomorrow afternoon.
Of course, I understand your point of view and respect it. The fact that we didn’t anticipate it doesn’t make us evil. I hope.
Does this make any sense?
It’s an unfortunate fact that if you sell vulnerable code you need to support it. It was a misjudgement that you should request payment from people in order to resolve it.
Do the support well for this security update (and accept the loss your company makes as part of the learning curve) and you will find that the goodwill you generate will persuade a lot more people to upgrade to lifetime support…
Please email me when the free security update is available for download!
Dear Andy,
I confirm: we’ll be giving free security-only updates to people with expired accounts. Our developers are working to complete this and it will be ready soon. When it’s ready, we will let you know and explain what to do next. Regards, Agnes
Dear Julian,
the free alternative you were exacting is available now. Please log into your WPML account and go to the ‘Downloads’ section. You will find the ‘WPML CMS Security update’ or ‘WPML Blog security update’ package, depending on the subscription you have.

Last time when I updated, then have a big problem for multi images matter. It took more than a 2 weeks to fix. So, really scare to update or upgrade now because for a world wide onsite company like your, products should be test well before release to public.
We use a number of free and paid plugins on our sites and we always test on a dev server before doing updates. Our QA includes 3 weeks of comprehensive testing, but you probably realizes that even this cannot cover every possible scenario and interaction with other plugins and themes. If you are running a critical site, I recommend testing updates on a staging server. A Lifetime account means that you receive support and updates for life without additional costs to you.
You can upgrade your WPML account to a Lifetime account at a discount of 50%. What this include ? Just pay and your company wont ask us any fee lifetime ???
Hi Robert, yes, with the Lifetime subscription you can get updates for life without any additional costs. Lifetime support is also included.
But as we announced yesterday, we’ll be giving free security-only updates to people with expired accounts. So it is up to you which option you will choose.
Dear robertC-5,
free security updates are available now. If you haven’t upgraded yet, you can get the updates for fee now but without access to our support forum. To do so, Please log into your WPML account and go to the ‘Downloads’ section. You will find the ‘WPML CMS Security update’ or ‘WPML Blog security update’ package, depending on the subscription you have.
To update your WPML plugins follow the instructions

Hi,
Today I received a message that I could upgrade WPML to life-time. The problem is – I allready paid for this upgrade back in november 4th 2013.
When I log into my account – I see you have downgraded my account.
I have bankstatements and receipts that I have paid, but on my order it says “Pending Payment” – which is not correct.
Order number: #286346
Please confirm, and fix! This is making me very upset.
Hi,
let us sort it out and check your status it in our system. If you already paid for your Lifetime subscription and have the receipts to confirm, it won’t be any problem to fix this. We will keep you posted.
Dear Torbjorn,
we checked and it turns out that you have 2 subscriptions:
1) One that expired back in 2013
2) And a new “lifetime” subscription purchased afterwards.
Our system incorrectly notified you about the 1st subscription, but your second subscription is still active and running.
We apologize. Please let me know if you have any problems.
We’re not happy about this either – we missed out on the standard update discount by a couple of days, and didn’t feel the plugin was bug-free enough to warrant updating at the full price. Now we learn the version we’re running on our clients site contains major security issues.
Please provide a free security update as soon as possible so we can keep our clients site secure, and please send a notification email when this is available.
Not sure about the lifetime offer, after this experience we’ll have to see if we can still confidently recommend your system for our clients – on current form, that is not the case. Hopefully the security update will be provided promptly and we can move forward from this negative experience with your product.
Dear Mike,
thanks for your comment and feedback. We’ll be giving free security-only updates to people with expired accounts. Our developers are currently working to complete this task and it will be ready soon. When it’s ready, we will let you know and we will explain what to do next. Thank you for your patience. Please note that these free updates will come without support. If you need help, you can still upgrade your accounts.
I am running 2.5.2. How recent is this version. I have never had any issues in four years. I have a site that does not have much traffic except for customers who know me. So am I really at risk? Do I need to upgrade? And if I choose to upgrade to your lifetime service what is required to upgrade. I am not skilled so will I need to hire a person to do this for me.
Hi Justin,
Each site that uses a version with potential exploits is at risk. Our recent WPML version responds to exploit reports in WPML. Every time security issues are discovered, it is our duty to inform the customers and do our best to help them prevent from being attacked. If you upgrade to Lifetime you will get access to our support forum and our WPML experts are here to help you.
After I clicked “upgrade the Upgrade to WPML Lifetime – $58.00
it shows:
You cannot buy this product.
Please help me out.
Thanks.
Kay
What message are you getting?
Like I said: “You cannot buy this product.”
And today, I found that your website is saying that “till April 20” is not available..
I just don’t understand why you play me like a fool, since, I was disappointed with your product and service, yet, this time I appreciated your kind offer, hence, decided to have a try again..
Now, ..Very disappointed again.
We decided to make it much easier for you and are offering the security update for free to everyone, including with expired accounts. You can download it from the Downloads section of your account without any cost to you.
Hello
Keen to take up the 50% discount on lifetime upgrade, but my account doesn’t expire until 1 May, a few days after the offer expires. Is there any way I can access the discount before 20 April, please?
Thanks
Hello,
this special offer is meant for our old customers only who gave up using WPML. Its purpose was to encourage them to upgrade to avoid security issues in our old releases. We will probably stop this discount very soon because it already served its purpose.
Dear Sir, Madam,
My website developer designed my website 3 years ago. Recently i updated the website and now I have problems with the translations. Probably because my plugin has expired.
My developer requered log in details and doesnt know the password, his emailaddress is mail@basvansambeek.nl
Could you please help me, so i can login and use the upgrade so my translation on each page is in the same language and not mixed up.
Looking forward to your reply,
Jindra
WPML doesn’t just “stop working” if your subscription expires. A valid subscription for WPML is needed to receive updates and support, but WPML plugin will continue working.
If the site was created several years ago and not updated since, you we probably using old versions of everything, including WordPress. A upgrade to a site that was outdated for several years could have broken a lot of things.
I really recommend that you contact a new web developer who can help you maintain your site, but that’s up to you. I’m forwarding your contact to our site admins, so they can help you switch your account info.
Thank you for the quick reply.
I did update everything (wordpress and plugins) frequently. Recently I asked a guy to look at the translating issue and he suggested me to contact you because he thinks its a matter of a bug in the plugin and not nesesarly my website/ wordpress itself.
So i try to contact the support, but then you need to login. And do not have these details. I found out myself that my webdeveloper used his details but when asking him, he said he doesnt know anymore and the problem I am experiencing is because of an expired licensed plugin.
i did request a new passoword sent to the guys his emailaddress but he doesnt receive anything or maybe he does but doesnt forward.
Now you say, I need to find a new webdeveloper but what will he do if i use:
plugin: Newer Version (2.9.1) Installed
wordpress: Version 4.1.1
A bit confusing if i may say and i really want to get this solved. Its very bad if a english person brows trough my website and first reading the right language and then on the next page dutch.etc.
Very anoying expecially I do not know enough of all these things.
Jindra
Hi,
I checked the discount offer several days ago. The site offered me an upgrade to life time package for $59. I can’t find this offer now. The site clearly gave stated the offer is available until April 20th. Am I mistaken or have I not followed the correct links?
Thanks.
Hi,
yes, we discontinued it because it’s no longer needed. Anyone has access to security updates without paying anything. Please log into your wpml.org account and you will be able to download the whole package.
Hi, Agnes –
Just to be sure — does the security update bring one up to the latest version as well?
Thanks!
Hi Lee,
no, to 3.1.9.3 whereas the latest one is 3.1.9.4.
I am thoroughly disappointed. I had a meeting with my clients telling them that we could buy the plugin at a discount that was until the 20th of April and now I can not …
I know that there is now another method but I want my discount as I had promised. nothing more
The purpose of this discount was to encourage people with expired accounts to renew their accounts and have access to this security update. Many people were against this policy, so we changed it and are offering security updates for free.
You don’t need to pay us anything if you only want to update this specific security update. Just log in to your WPML account (even expired) and download it.
As we are offering this security updates for free, we stopped the discount, as the original objective is already accomplished.
Hi, I’m confused and I don’t have time to investigate. I got an email saying I can get 50% discount for a ‘Lifetime Account” but I don’t see that option after logging in. I was lead to download some package and I have no idea what it does. And then there are options to “Upgrade to a Lifetime account ($116.00 instead of $195.00). Buy the Multilingual CMS again ($79.00).” Which I have no idea what each of the option actually mean. Please clarify. Thanks!
If you need security updates, just log in to your WPML account and download. It’s available for free. To receive all other updates (not only related to security) and get our support, we offer our standard renewal options.
Since your account has expired, you can get access to all updates (not limited to security updates) and our support in two ways:
* Buy a new account for WPML for one year (and you can renew it for additional years later, at 50% of the original price)
* Upgrade to a Lifetime account, paying the difference between the Lifetime account cost ($195) and what you paid already.
Does this help?
Hi Agnes,
I would like to respond to the email that was sent to me just over a week ago by purchasing the life time package for $59. I can not find the download link. Please let me know how I can still apply to the offer. (Please do not tell me that you sent me an offer and then having second thoughts about it and decided to cancel it…)
Regards,
Frank.
We received a lot of feedback from people saying that they are unhappy with our offer, so we changed it. You can receive the security update for free from your WPML account. To receive all updates (not only security updates), we offer the standard account renewal options.
People were offended by our offer for a discount for a lifetime account, so we pulled it and we provide the security update for free.
I hope this helps.
Dear Amir, in the original offer the due date was 20th April, I would like to buy the lifetime account, but have to wait a little, maybe a little e-mail notification about the changing the date of this 50% discount would have been nice from you! Please think about to make an exception and give an oppurtunity to get this offer! Thanks
I can’t believe this either. Since it was clearly stated that the offer would be valid until the 20th, I anticipated to upgrade when the time comes. Now I login and see the offer has been revoked. Seriously?
While I think it is a decent thing to do to offer the security update only for free, revoking an offer that has been made is so not the thing to do. I actually can’t believe this, not even a notice beforehand. Is the marketing department only sipping martini’s while trying to score the new secretary of the boss or do they actually think once in a while?
A well, 59$ well lost.
The special discount will expire on April 20th 2015 has now expired. I was gonna upgrade my account on 20th April, but it’s expired. I can’t live without WPML on wordpress sites. 50% off was a good offer for lifetime account. Thanks for this plugin and your support.
Thank you for your comment and your kind words. We are sorry but this $58 option is no longer active.
I made an offer to one of our costumers for a life time support for $58,- If i’m
Right you now cancelled this option because there is an free Security available. How am i gonne tell this to my costumers? This is not a very professional manner to give a level of service to Your costumers. So please tell me where can i download an pay for the $58,- Lifetime support? Thank you! P.s. And yes i know there is an free update but that doesnt have Anything to do with this.
Dear Auke,
we are sorry that it caused more problems for you and your customer. This $58 option is no longer active.
I wanted to upgrade to Lifetime but the offer has expired BEFORE the advertised April 20th 2015? How am I going to explain this to my customer? Very unprofessional.
Please re-instate the 50% discount so I can upgrade my account like it said in the email.
Please log into your account and we offer the 3.1.9.3 version for free.
Dear Agnes,
I think it is really unfair, we need to feel like partners, and the partner doesn’t do things like this! Please don’t misunderstood me, I mean you can revoke a discount like this, (by the way my opinion is this was generous), just sen a little notice via e-mail next time only 1 hour 10 hour 1 day remain until it is expires! I think it will be fair to give 1 day when it is still active and send a notification about it to users! Tey can decide, to buy this or not (and you can show how generous is the WPML) Please think about it! Thanks for your work! Wait for reply!
Dear iD Sign,
we are really sorry about the whole situation. It has become more complicated that we could anticipate. Our intentions were good and we wanted to help our old customers. Then there were different turning points mostly because we were open to our customers feedback but it has seemed impossible to satisfy everyone. Actually, we wanted to send out emails about this offer about to be closed, but other clients gave us such feedback that it was not possible: people complained about us using our updates mailing list to send offers. In return to your payment, we are doing our very best to provide you with a good product and the best support that we can give.
Yes I see it is more complicated, and of course i know and undertand you can’t satsfy everyone, this is the human nature :):), I kindly ask you give us a coupon code for the lifetime license (for those who complain :)), the other can get the free sec update, or give us a little discount, I really want to buy this, and it worth a 120$, but please be generous 🙂 Thanks a lot
Hello,
Just coming back from a month of holidays (every couple of years you need a real break ^^) and I see your offer (very kind) in my mailbox but despite the announced closure isn’t over I’m not able to upgrade to a lifetime account.
Why did you closed subscriptions earlier? Is there a way of fixing that and benefit this offer?
Thank you for you answer.
Best regards,
ThirtyThirds.
Hello,
We received a lot of feedback from people saying that they are unhappy with our offer, so we changed it. You can receive the security update for free from your WPML account. To receive all updates (not only security updates), we offer the standard account renewal options.
Same happend to me, received a 50% offer for upgrade but was away on holiday and now is not there… (similar)
Anyway I will think about the upgrade as I saw was a month window but is not at 50%
Thanks
No worries. While you were away, we decided to release this security upgrade for free, so you actually don’t need to pay us anything if you want to receive security updates for your sites. If you want to receive normal support for WPML, you are invited to use the regular account upgrades that we offer.
Can you please send me a coupon code for the $59 life time package offer, before 20th April ends? Thanks a lot and best Regards
Hi Ly-Ling,
we don’t have such a coupon. We decided to release this security upgrade for free, so you don’t need to pay us anything if you would like to receive security updates for your sites.
We made an offer for our costumers for a life time support for $59,- and
you have cancelled this option.
That’s fantastic!
This is not a very professional way.
Thank you for the notice and for the security fix. I will be using this for several sites so I have purchased the lifetime support option at the discounted rate.
