From the go, we designed WPML 4.7 to help you get better translations with less effort. Now, you can easily translate your entire site from a single page – the new Translation Dashboard.

New Translation Dashboard for Smarter Workflow

We completely revamped the Translation Dashboard which is now the only screen you need to translate your entire site.
Easily send any content for translation including posts, pages, WooCommerce products, forms, widgets, and any other type.
Before selecting how you want to translate your content, you now also get an estimate on the wordcount. Everything is simple and at a glance!

The top of the Translation Dashboard page will now also show you the detailed status of your translations and guide you in case your attention is required for anything.

Easy Theme & Plugin String Translations

We vastly simplified how you translate texts (strings) that are outside regular content and come from plugins and themes. You only need to follow two simple steps:

  1. Visit your site’s frontend in a secondary language and find the page with the untranslated texts (strings). WPML will autodetect them and make them available for translation.

  1. Find the Other texts (Strings) section on the Translation Dashboard and select the Frontend (viewed) filter. This displays all the texts that WPML identified when you visited the frontend. You can safely send all these untranslated texts for translation.

And that’s it! You no longer need to hunt for strings. WPML does this work for you and shows you the strings you need, directly on the Translation Dashboard.

Enhancements for Advanced Translation Editor

WPML 4.7 also brings major improvements to the Advanced Translation Editor, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.

Smarter segmentation – WPML now displays paragraphs together for a more natural translation flow. If you prefer, you can still revert to sentence-based segmentation.

Content is grouped like in WordPress – The Advanced Translation Editor now mirrors the layout of the WordPress editor, keeping content in the same order with familiar labels. This makes translating structured content—like pages built with Elementor, SEO metadata from Yoast, and forms—easier than ever.

New Feature – Automatic Glossary Retranslation!

Updating your WPML Glossary now comes with an added benefit: WPML can automatically retranslate all affected content, ensuring consistency across your site without extra effort.

At launch, Glossary Retranslation is free to use but comes with temporary usage limits to maintain system stability. Soon, these limits will be lifted, and a small fee will be introduced to cover system costs.

WPML 4.7 enhances compatibility with popular WordPress plugins, ensuring a smoother translation experience across your site. Our team made sure all WPML add-ons take full advantage of the new features.

  1. Hi,

    Thanks for this update. I like the new translator editor and I notice I no longer need to clean my cache and/or reload a page to complete the segments from 94% to 100%.

    The management of tags in segments is also a lot better.

    What I am missing is the ability to move from one segment to another with CTRL + Down arrow. Now, I have to use the mouse to open a segment I need to edit.

    What I’d also like to see is Segment numbers, to easily reference a problem or terminology issue on a give segment on a page.

    • Hi again, Michael! I checked this with our developers and actually, we already have a related keyboard shortcut. When translating in the Advanced Translation Editor, click CTRL + ENTER and the editor will save the current segment and move you to the next untranslated segment.

  3. Hi

    This is a big overhaul and looks good on the surface, however I have two big issues with it:

    1) There are no IDs anywhere to be seen, so it’s hard to track exactly what element is being targeted. For example if I open the “Subscriptions” drop down, they all have similar titles and I cannot target easily the one I might need. It would be so simple to add the unique Post ID column beside the Post Title in all the drop down boxes, no? Perhaps even allow other useful columns to be displayed (eg ID, Author, the real timestamp and not just the date, etc …). Especially when working in a dev environment, where you might need to verify first if something is safe to delete or the effects of deleting something you might no longer need, or for translation purposes to ensure you are translating the correct thing!

    2) I would love more information about what EXACTLY goes missing if I switch to the new Advanced Translation Editor. Your FAQ says in a very vague way that issues “may” occur, such as “missing translations”, without giving any more detail about what other issues might occur and what (kind of) translations MAYBE might not be translated:

    I can see the benefits of moving to ATE (especially for the future when we grow and have more employees), but don’t wanna face a week of losing and updating translations if I can avoid it.

    The updated date at the bottom of the page is 16/10/2024. Is it still accurate since the release of the latest version of the plugin?

    I’d be happy to have a web meeting of some kind to discuss.

    • Hi, Simon! Thank you for the comment and interesting thoughts. Allow me to reply to both points:
      1. I think your suggestion about displaying ID for items listed on the Translation Dashboard is a very good point.
      – I went ahead and created a ticket for our developers for this.

      2. When switching to Advanced Translation Editor, if any translations get “lost” depends on the site, content, and how the translations were done.
      – However, I am checking with the developers to learn a few real-life examples so that I can update the documentation page you mentioned with this information.
      – My suggestion would be to create a test copy of your site and try switching there. This will be the best preview of what you can expect. Then, if anything’s not clear open a ticket in our support and let our supporters take a look.

      I would also say that it depends on how you want to translate your site going forward: manually, using other users/translators on your site, or automatically. If you’re interested in using automatic translation, then even if you lose a bit of content during the switch, retranslation using automatic translation is super fast and really cheap. As a Content Manager for all our sites, after switching to WPML AI automatic translation, there’s no way I would go back. It’s just super convenient, it’s affordable, and the quality with WPML AI is excellent.

      • Hi Dario

        Great – thanks for that – like I said, I would also like the timestamp not just the date. I imagine the ID and Title might be enough for most users, but it would still be nice to have a little menu or 3 dots … somewhere to add additional columns in if needed, which one could also click away when not needed for clarity and elegance.

        I use AI already a lot for translations, and it does save a lot of time for sure, however it annoys me that all the English that comes out of it always uses chatty marketing-style US English expressions and is spelt typically in US English. We are a European company which prefers the original English.

        Look forward to your update on what goes missing. Will I get an email directly when the info is available?

        • Thanks Simon! I will leave you a comment here when I hear back from the developers.

          I presume you’re using AI to manually translate things and not from within WPML (because to use automatic translations, you need to have Advanced Translation Editor enabled). So, maybe that’s why you’re not happy with translations. Not all AI solutions are really great at translating. For example, I’ve never heard of WPML’s automatic translations to be “chatty” or anything like this. As you got some free credits with your WPML account, I suggest trying WPML AI and seeing how it works for you. You can do it on a test site so that you don’t risk losing any existing translations or anything like that.

  4. Hi,

    I would like to try 4.7 as I have issues with the current release (4.6.15) but when I follow Plugin / add new plugin / commercial tab + check for update I only have the 4.6.15 from december 16.

    Is there anything else I can do?

    • Hi, Caroline! Please try the following:
      1. Do again what you already tried. Go to the Plugin → Add New Plugin → Commercial tab and click on the “Check for updates” button. There could have been a temporarily glitch that is now gone and this should actually work now.
      2. If that doesn’t work, go to the main WordPress Updates screen under Dashboard → Updates and look just below the “Current version: ” heading at the top of the page. Just below it, click the “Check again” link. Then, go to the Commercial tab again and check if WPML 4.7 download is available (click “Check for updates” if needed).

      • Hi Dario,

        The only way for me to see the update is to switch to the beta channel.
        And even with the beta cheannel selected, the installation is a fail.
        I’m on my staging website which is registered to get the update.
