This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
You are experiencing issues where translated posts are showing as 'uncategorized' and errors occur when switching languages, stating 'couldn't find any post in this category'. Additionally, you are unable to run a synchronization as the sync button is not showing up.
Solution:
This issue might be related to permalinks being manipulated by SEO plugins like Yoast SEO. We recommend you to:
1. Install and activate the WPML SEO plugin by going to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Commercial (tab) and selecting WPML SEO.
2. After installation, navigate to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and click the save button to purge the cache.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it's important to ensure that your site is backed up before proceeding further. We suggest opening a new support ticket with us, providing access details in a private reply, after confirming that you have a backup.

Please note that this solution might be outdated or not applicable to your specific case. We highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the issue persists, please contact our support team for further assistance.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate posts on my site hidden link. The posts are translated, and the categories have been translated as well. I have checked WPML > taxonomy translation, and the categories are already translated.

Symptoms:
Translated posts show under 'uncategorized'. The category page shows the post in the original language, but when I switch language, I get an error 'couldn't find any post in this category'. I cannot run a synchronization since the sync button is not showing up. I got the message 'taxonomy hierarchy is already synchronized'.

Questions:
Why are translated posts showing as 'uncategorized'?
Why do I get an error 'couldn't find any post in this category' when switching languages?
How can I run a synchronization if the sync button is not showing up?

Hi there,

It seems that the chat was disconnected. I add the reply here:

The categories should be the same if when you did the translation of the posts, the categories were already translated.

If not, you will need to go to WordPress Dashborad > Pages

Change the language from the top admin bar to the second language and enter the translated pages and assign the proper categories to them

Also you need to make sure that the " Copy taxonomy to translations" option is enabled in WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Settings > Posts and pages synchronization.

Note: Answers on tickets are slower than chat and it takes 24-48 hours.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help ; i'm confused it still doesn't work

1. I confirm the "Copy taxonomy to translations" option is enabled in WordPress Dashboard > WPML > Settings > Posts and pages synchronization.

2. Let's take an example on the "Events" category I have
2.1 French articles belong to category "evennements"
2.2 The category "evennements" is translated into "events" for the ENG language
2.3 on the dashboard > posts, frenc articles belong to "evennemnts" ; ENG posts are translated and belong to "events" category"

On the front office
- FR post display in french : ex : hidden link
- ENG translation of the post works well : hidden link

But when it comes the archive page, the ENG version drives to a 404 page
FR : hidden link
ENG : hidden link

Any idea why I have this issue ?

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I checked and this seems to be related to permalinks that can be manipulated by SEO plugins such as Yoast SEO that you have installed.

Please go to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Commercial (tab) and select WPML SEO and install and activate that plugin.

After that go to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks and click the save button there to purge the cache,

See if it works. If not, I'd appreciate it if you could give me the URL/User/Pass of your WordPress dashboard after you make sure that you have a backup of your website.
It is absolutely important that you give us a guarantee that you have a backup so if something happens you will have a point of restore.

Make sure you set the next reply as private.
