[Resolved] A page fails to translate in 1 of 3 languages
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: If you're trying to translate your home page into French using WPML and it fails repeatedly, expecting to see the WPML Advanced Translation Editor but it doesn't appear. Solution: We have identified this issue and it should now be resolved now. If you're still experiencing this problem, we recommend you try translating the page again. If the issue persists, please check for any related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verify you have the latest versions of your themes and plugins, and confirm the version of the permanent fix.
If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend opening a new support ticket. You can do so at WPML support forum.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
If the problem persists, navigate to WPML → Support and click on the Troubleshooting link. On the Troubleshooting page, look for and click the button labeled Force-enable WPML’s Advanced Translation Editor (please note that this button may not always appear).
As another step, try triggering a translation update by making a small change to the original page (e.g., adding a dot), saving it, then removing the change and saving again. This should mark the translation as needing an update, allowing you to re-enter the WPML translation editor.
Those steps did not help with the page that initially caused problems. I tried translating a different page and that worked. I also made a copy of the problematic page but it also could not be translated.
I looked into the error logs and this is printed on every failed attempt:
XLIFF Server Communication The uploaded xliff file does not seem to be properly formed.
Missing or wrong data: target
Could you please try the following steps and let me know the results?
1. Make a slight change to the page in the original language.
2. Update the page.
3. Then, try opening it again in the Translation Editor.
Before doing this, please make sure to cancel any translations for that page that are currently marked as In Progress in WPML → Translation Management → Jobs.
I need to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site—preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible—in order to be of better help. When you log in to leave your next reply, you will find the needed fields below the comment area. The information you will enter is private, meaning only you and I can see and access it.
