This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client was unable to use the automatic translation feature in WPML due to incorrect account type and subsequent errors after reinstallation, including authentication errors and missing translation options. Solution: 1. We recommended increasing the WordPress memory limit to at least 128MB, ideally 256MB, by adding the following code to the wp-config.php file:
2. We advised generating a new key for the domain via WPML account sites, unregistering the old key, and re-registering WPML with the new key. 3. After addressing these issues, the automatic translation feature began to function correctly.
If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems outdated, we recommend opening a new support ticket. Additionally, please check related known issues at WPML known issues, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.

Hello! So, I installed the wpml in my website, but accidentally connected my plugin to my clients account which has a blog plan, not a CMS plan so I could not use the automatic translation feature. So I deleted the plug in, installed it again and register my account on it. But now I dont see the option or where to make the automatic translation.
Now there are several errors that say:
2024/08/21 8:34:36 PM
ATE Server Communication
Unable to authenticate {"url":"https:\/\/ate.wpml.org\/api\/wpml\/languages\/check_pairs","requestArgs":{"method":"POST","body":[{"source_language":"es","target_languages":["en"]}]},"status":"auth_error"}
and another one that says:
memory limit 40, change to 128mb
These settings can be limited directly by your hosting provider, so, if that’s the case, I recommend you contact and ask them to modify them directly. If you can get even higher values It would be great.
After they are modified, you can verify them from WPML >> Support page, just to make sure that they are correct.
2. Also, can you please let me know if you tried to generate a new key from here (https://wpml.org/account/sites) for this domain (remove any old key for this site) > and then go to your site's backend > Plugins > Add new > Commercial > UN-register WPML from the old key > RE-register WPML with the new key > can you please let me know if it works like this?
ok mihai, I've changed the memory limit, and now it shows ok in the plugin. And also I unregistered the old key and re register wpml with the new key, and it still shows the same. I can't see any option available for automatic translation.
I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site so I can better examine the issue. The needed fields are below the comment area. When you log in to leave your next reply, the information you enter is private, meaning only you and I can see and access it.
Our Debugging Procedures
I will check various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to back up the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate it and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.
- Please back up the site files and database before providing us access.
If you do not see the wp-admin/FTP fields, your post and website login details will be made PUBLIC. DO NOT post your website details unless you see the required wp-admin/FTP fields. If you do not, please ask me to enable the private box.
I can confirm that I was able to log in successfully.
Also, sorry for the delayed response but it is a full ticket queue at the moment so it can take more than usual to get back to you.
Also, I don't work on the weekends.
At the moment, from what I can see, the WPML plugin is missing from the site (not even installed) so I'm not sure what happened until now. Can you please tell me a bit about this?
This is a live site, not a staging/testing environment so usually we are not allowed to install plugins on customer's live websites.
Can you please let me know if you would prefer me to install it again or how I can help going further?
Hello! yes I had to delete de plugin because for some reason it made an empty translation and bugged my website. After installing the plugin my main domain lead to a "page not found" link.
Could you please install it for me and make an automatic translation? Or how can we solve it? Please I need to make it work as soon as possible.
Thank you very much.
Great Mihai thank you so much! Yes I have a back up from today and from last friday actually so we are good to go.
Would you let me know when its done so I can check the website?
Thanks again.
Hello Mihai! how are you?
Just checking about the status of the instalation of the plugin and the translation. Would you let me know when its done? or when you are working on it?
Thank you very much.
hello mihai! how are you?
Yes I can see now that the plugin is installed, but I dont see the option of automatic translation! I'll leave attached a screenshot with the translation admin of WPML. It's in spanish but you can see that the automatic translation part is missing.
Please let me know how can I solve it.
Thank you.
