Background of the issue:
I am trying to manually translate pages on my site hidden link using WPML. I created two pages: one in English and one in Arabic.
Symptoms:
When I save the manual translations, the English translations change. Additionally, there is no option to switch to the Arabic page from the English page.
Questions:
How can I save manual translations without affecting the English translations?
How can I implement a language switcher to allow switching between English and Arabic pages?
I understand the issue you're having. The issue you're having typically occurs when the default and translated pages are synchronized, moreover, the translated page has not been translated independently.
Could you please open the translated page again in the WordPress editor and confirm if you see the "Translated Independently" button in the Language Meta section or not? You can refer to this screenshot for a better understanding: hidden link.
If the button is still visible, it means the page is synchronized with the default language and Changes made in the default language will overwrite the translated content. To break this synchronization, please click the "Translate Independently" button. For a better understanding, please check this screenshot: hidden link
Once completed, the translation will not be overwritten when you update the default language page/post.
Regarding your query about the language switcher: If you'd like to display the language switcher on the frontend, you can add one by following this guide. It is also possible to place a language switcher anywhere on the site using the shortcode mentioned here: shortcode guide.
Please note that to see the other languages on the switcher, make sure to translate the page/post into the other languages on your site.
If you're referring to switching between Arabic and English from the backend or WordPress editor, you can do so using the Admin language switcher, which appears in the top bar of the admin (Screenshot: hidden link). This switcher is also available in the WordPress editor, making it easy to switch between languages. If you don't see the switcher, try disabling the fullscreen mode of the editor by clicking the option shown in this screenshot (hidden link). The top bar with the language switcher should appear afterward.
I hope the information above will help. Feel free to let me know if you have any other queries or need clarification. I'll be happy to help.
Best regards,
Prosenjit
