PHP 8.2 Compatibility

Problem:
The client is attempting to update their website to PHP 8.2 but has been informed by their host of a potential incompatibility issue with the file

/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/inc/translation-proxy/translationproxy-basket.class.php

. The client is concerned about updating their theme due to the site operating on an outdated version of PHP.

Solution:
We recommend creating a full website backup before proceeding with the PHP version update. If the hosting provider has identified a specific error message, we ask the client to share more details to assist us better. After backing up, the client should update to PHP 8.2 and monitor for any issues. If anything specific occurs, or if there are any error messages or unusual behavior, we encourage the client to open a new support ticket or a live chat with us, providing all relevant information for further investigation. I am trying to update my website to PHP 8.2 but my host says there is a potential incompatibility problem that shows up in the file below: /chroot/home/aeb00ed8/appleton.pt/html/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/inc/translation-proxy/translationproxy-basket.class.php Could you please advise. appletonA	This is their full response: The report provided us with the name of the file that might be having issues with compatibility once the PHP version is updated. In this case it would be only one file and it is regarding one of the plugins. I advise to either disable the plugin first or reach out to a developer, so that there aren't any issues if you decide to proceed with the update. Note that the report of the file could also be false positive, so even if it is providing us with the error there might not be any issues with the newer PHP version.

My honest recommendation would be to create a full website backup and then make the update to that PHP version. In case anything specific takes place, please do not hesitate to open a ticket or a live chat with all the information that you have including any error messages or anything weird that you experience and we will be more than happy to run an investigation. Updating the PHP version could also cause issues with other plugins, too, so be on the lookout for that, too. A backup ahead of time, before doing anything, is the most important thing in situations like this so I strongly recommend that. Mihai
