I am trying to: automatically translate my pages.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen:

I expected to see:

Instead, I got: This error: "You can only automatically translate content from your site's default language (English), to your site's other languages. Deselect content in your site's secondary languages to proceed."

When switching to English I got this error: You can only automatically translate content from your primary language (Dutch) to other languages. Use the language switcher at the top of this page to switch to Dutch.

Hello,

that is expected, and as the message shows you can only translate from your WPML default language to another.

From translation management, you should from filter select English, select pages in English and send them for translation. Image attached.

Let us know if any other questions.

Regards,
Drazen

Thanks for your response Drazen! I'm doing just that. But if I select English it will say Dutch is the original and vice versa. Any idea why?

Hello,

could be the page is created as default in Dutch.

1) Can you please try to create one new test page in English and see if the issues still happen?

2) Please also go to WPML > Support > Troubleshooting > Clean up and click to run next:

- Clear the cache in WPML
- Remove ghost entries
- Fix element_type collation
- Set language information
- Fix post type assignment

Please make a backup before proceeding.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello,

that is weird.

Please let me have a look and, if possible create a staging site so we can check it out safely.

Please make a full backup of your site (files and database) and confirm it in your next reply.

Please note, that I might need to do some debugging procedures like enable/disable plugins, switch themes, change the default language of the user account, and/or access your website database to debug the issue furtherly.

I will share with you any changes or steps done in this process. Please let me know if you do not agree with the above or if I do not have your permission for any.

I would need to access both your site's wp-admin and FTP account, if possible.

I have enabled the private username and password fields in your next reply.

I suggest you create a new user, set it as an administrator and then add those credentials in the private fields mentioned.

You can safely add your information into these fields.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello Niels,

I checked your website, and I can see the default language is Dutch.

I have created a new page (New NL Page) in the NL language and the issue is not there, works just fine. So you need to have pages created in NL language and then translate them if you wish to use automatic translation.

I also see you have WPML String translation disabled, which is required in order for WPML to work correctly with page builders. Please enable it.

If you still have issues or doubts feel free to let me know.

Regards,
Drazen

Thanks Drazen! Is there a way for me to filter on the original Dutch language? I have tried, but unfortunately, this does not work.

Hello Niels,

since your default language is Dutch your pages should also be created default in Dutch, to avoid issues.

If they are created as default in English then you can not use automatic translation in such a way while Dutch is your website default langauge.

You can try assigning the translation to yourself, and then from the ATE editor use Transalte automatically button.

Let me know if any other questions or doubts.

Regards,
Drazen
