Background of the issue:
My original language is synced up to 4 other languages. When I update an image on the original language, I want it to automatically sync that image up to other languages, so that all languages are displaying that image. If possible, I'd even like this to happen if there is a title or alt text attached to the image.

Symptoms:
Currently, after I update or upload an image and update the original language, I also have to go into every other language and sync it back up in order to make the new image appear there.

Questions:
How can I automatically sync updated images from the original language to other languages in WPML?
Is it possible to automatically sync images with a title or alt text?

Hi there,

Please go to WPML->Settings->*scroll to the bottom of the page "Media Translation"

Enable or verify that these options are enabled (see screenshot)

If that all is OK, it is important to note that if you are not using automatic translation (translate everything) then once you make a change to the default language you will be prompted to update the translation as well for that change to take effect in the translation as well.

That is true for media, text, and style changes.

I have confirmed all of that is checked, as shown in the image.

I am not using any automatic translation tools.

Just to confirm, you are saying that it is impossible to have translations automatically get populated with updates to the original language because I'm not using said tools?

For example, if I change an image but have it contain no text, then even if I go into all the other languages, they'll be at 100%, so what's the point of forcing me to update the language manually?

Additionally, is it at all possible to update all the other languages at once, instead of going into each individually?

You can try going to the same settings I shared in the above screenshot and click on "Start".

Once finished check and let me know your results, please.

I'm following up on this that my co-worker started. I have a couple questions.

1. Does WPML provide consulting services?
2. Will the automatic translation feature translate all metadata in images seamlessly over manually.

Hi there,

When you mention consulting services, are you referring to the support we offer for troubleshooting issues related to our plugin? That's the main assistance we provide.

Regarding automatic translation, yes, it automatically translates all content. Any changes you make to the original content will also be automatically updated in the translations, removing the need for manual updates.

Will the automatic translation process translate metadata for images?

When you say metadata for images, you mean title, description, etc correct? If yes, then yes they will be translated.

The client has been using manual translation only for this site due to having specific translations for each language. If automatic translation is used, only for image metadata, will that interfere with using manual translation for other content?

Yes, if the media is attached to a page/post that the client is translating manually they cannot only translate the media with automatic translation they would instead be translating the whole page.
