Credits used for automatic translations

This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client is experiencing unexpected deductions of translation credits when opening a page with the Advanced Translation Editor (ATE), despite the translation memory being up to date and the settings adjusted to prevent automatic translations.

Solution:
We reviewed the client's WPML settings and confirmed that the translation mode was set to "Translate What You Choose", which should prevent automatic translations unless initiated by the user. We could not identify any issues with the translation jobs from the reports provided.

Additionally, we suggested switching between translation modes and adjusting the translation settings as already done by the client.

If you continue to experience the issue of WPML credits being deducted when they shouldn’t be, we need to find a way to replicate this problem on your website so we can address it appropriately.

williamV-12	Background of the issue: I am trying to open a page with the Advanced Translator Editor to check on the translation. Even if the text is already translated and the translation memory is up to date, credits get deducted. Symptoms: I consistently get deduction in the translation credits when I open a page with ATE, even though I don't expect a page to be automatically translated. Questions: Why are credits being deducted when opening a page with ATE? (see report: no translations credits should have been used in December 2024. How can I prevent automatic translation when using ATE?

After reviewing your WPML settings, I noticed that the translation mode is set to "Translate What You Choose." This means that no automatic translations will occur until you either send content for translation or use it the Advanced Translation Editor. Could you please show me where you see the credits being deducted each time you use the Advanced Translation Editor?

williamV-12	Hi Andrey, we have completed the translations on the website. We have had a hard time preventing WPML to automatically edit the translations, and having to reinstate the translations we had already reviewed. This despite the fact that we tried to always save the latest version to the translation memory. In this already difficult and uselessly time-consuming process, WPML has been detracting credits, despite the correct mode being used, as it can bee seen from the attached screenshot. It's a screenshot of the credits used in December 2024 (some were returned), part of the report downloaded from WPML of the credits used since last year. I tried uploading the report to the ticket, but it didn't work. Hopefully, the screenshot clarifies that. Thank you for your assistance. Daniela

williamV-12	I changed the setting from the Translated document options from "Publish the post translations" to "do not publish the post translations" to see if this helps with this problem of changing pages when I don't want them to change. How would I then post the translation, when I do want to publish changes? Thanks, Daniela

I reviewed the report from our end but couldn’t identify any issues. I checked several translation jobs, and they all seem to be valid. To publish the translations, please follow these steps: 1. Go to Pages → All Pages. 2. Select the desired language. 3. Edit the page, and then click Publish. I recommend trying the following steps to troubleshoot: - Switch between the translation modes. - Adjust the translation settings as you have already done. If you continue to experience the issue of WPML credits being deducted when they shouldn’t be, we need to find a way to replicate this problem on your website so we can address it appropriately. In the meantime, I have added 5,000 complimentary credits to your account.
