I believe there may be a conflict with a third-party plugin and WPML. However, I've followed your instructions again and added a new category, as demonstrated in this screen recording: hidden link , and it continues to function correctly.
Could you please try translating again into another language to see if it works on your end? Please remember to share the recording afterward.
HI Kor, OK. So I will try to translate a small article post: 'Three Little Words Will Find You' in to Chinese using Automatic Translation. We usually use real translators for higher quality. They often report issues in that they cannot complete translations as the button says 'in progress' when they complete with 100% - so an indication that things are not smooth there either.
Here is the loom link of my method for asking for an automatic translation of the post into Chinese: hidden link
You will see that the translation didn't resolve in the 5 mins of the video. It is, in fact, 12 minutes later it became a cog - please see screen shot showing 'waiting for automatic translation' so it failed to translate.
I've reviewed the issue you mentioned and taken the necessary steps to resolve it. I used the options available at hidden link , as shown in the attached screenshot, to synchronize the WPML options with the database.
I've successfully completed the Chinese language translation at hidden link, and everything should be functioning correctly now. Could you try translating another post now and see if it helps?
Thanks for the screen shot and the instruction - do I need to go through and reset every button on the screen shot and do this for every class in the synchronise posts taxonomies drop down?
I will back up as instructed but I just want to ensure I am only doing the absolutely necessary resets as I am concerned that we lose content as has happened in the past. It feels like the is a very delicate eco-system that breaks very easily.
Thanks Kor, So to do a further test I added the category 'Chinese' to the post 'Three Little Words Will Find You' and used Quick edit to add the category then in asked the site to update all the required translations for the post via ATE function. This appears to have worked.
Translations get 'stuck' quite regularly and we do use the troubleshooting buttons to 'fix' them, but never know quite what the issue is.
What strikes me with this whole thread is that we haven't got to the bottom of why our site kept getting critical errors and crashing. Where are we now in discovering the third-party plugin clash?? How do we proceed?
This issue typically arises due to inadequate server resources during translation processes, leading to incomplete translations on some pages. Try initiating translations for fewer pages at a time, which should allow them to complete successfully without causing site crashes. If you encounter this issue consistently with every automatic translation attempt, please inform me so that I can escalate it to our second-tier support for further investigation.
Hi Kor, as we are on WP Engine and our website has plenty of memory and great server resources I highly doubt what you say. Besides the last post we tested had around 150 words in it and it failed to get translated properly.
With the seemingly random nature of our issues it means we will limp along until the next site crash.
What do we do if we have problems not with every use of ATE but every other use?
Our fully completed manual translations have been showing as 'in progress' and we have to troubleshoot them to complete.
What is the debugging log are the error logs for if nothing can be deduced from them?
Is our site crashing 3 times and non translation issues not enough for the site issues to be escalated as you have not been able confirm the site is stable?
I can escalate this to our 2nd Tier Support. However, I'll need your authorization to perform several translations on the post at hidden link to try and replicate the crash.
Without being able to recreate the issue, our 2nd Tier Support won't be able to investigate further.
If you have an alternative method to replicate the issue, please inform me.
Hi Kor, yes I'm happy for you to do that. Please also add language categories after you have translated as that can cause a crash as well. Let me know how it goes.
I've followed your instructions and completed translations in both Japanese and Arabic, as well as added a category. However, I still haven't been able to reproduce the crash issue you mentioned. You can view the results here: hidden link
OK, I can see. Can you tel me why the German translation is not completed on that post. (I haven't asked for German translation and that appears not to be resolving?) Which is Odd.
The category issue happens when I add the relevant language category and then update ALL the posts so that all the translations align with the new category. Please add an arabic and japanese category from the drop down menu then update all the translated posts and that's often whey things go wrong. thank you
I've noticed that the German post didn't translate properly. Therefore, I deleted the German language version, retranslated it, and now it's functioning correctly: hidden link
Regarding reproducing the crash, I've added a category "New-Test-Category-WPML" on the English language page hidden link , and I've updated several languages for testing purposes, which consumed some credits.
It didn't crash, but it was stuck on the gear icon, and clicking on the Clear all Caches here hidden link seems to fix it.
You can try the rest of the languages if you want but keep in mind that it will consume some credits to translate this category "New-Test-Category-WPML" from English. hidden link
Hi Kor, yes we have used the clear cache function before to try and resolve stuck things. Sometomes it works sometimes it doesn't. So I guess we are at road block in that we can't replicate the earlier error we were experiencing. I think we'll close this ticket and carry on and when if it happens again I'll be back in touch!
Thanks for your support. We're still frustrated here because this shakes our confidence in the software. We've used up quite a bit of credits on the testing of the error, can we please have some awarded to us? This will help.
Thanks.
