This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
If you're experiencing issues editing a Chinese page within a custom post type called 'Systems', where you receive an error message stating 'You attempted to edit an item that doesn't exist. Perhaps it was deleted?', even though the item clearly exists and this issue is specific to the Chinese language.
Solution:
We recommend checking the 'trash' for both the pages and the custom post type to ensure no items are mistakenly marked as deleted. If the issue persists, try the following steps:
1. Navigate to WPML->Settings-> Systems.
2. Change the translation for the Chinese term back to "systems".
This adjustment should allow you to access the edit page again. This is a known issue, and we are working on resolving it in upcoming releases of WPML. Always ensure you have a recent and working backup before making any changes.

If this solution does not resolve your issue or seems irrelevant due to being outdated or not applicable to your case, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If problems persist, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to edit a Chinese page within a custom post type called 'Systems' on my site hidden link. This issue only occurs with the Chinese language in this specific custom post type. Editing other languages or Chinese pages in other custom post types works fine.

Symptoms:
When I attempt to edit a Chinese page in the 'Systems' custom post type, I receive the error message: 'You attempted to edit an item that doesn't exist. Perhaps it was deleted?'

Questions:
Can you help me find the cause of this issue?

Hi there,

Please review the 'trash' for both the pages and CPT on which this issue is experienced.

While in the 'trash' area, click on the Chinese language to review any trash under that language.

Let me know your results, please.

Hi Bobby,

There is nothing in the trash for this CPT.

This CPT has 56 posts for the Chinese language, it doesn't matter which one I click, I receive the error message for every single one of them.

When I edit those pages in English, French, German or Dutch it works fine.

I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to test the issue.
(preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated if possible)

**Before we proceed It is necessary to take FULL BACKUP of your database and your website. Providing us with access, you agree that a backup has been taken **

I often use the Duplicator plugin for this purpose: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/
You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply.
The information you enter is private which means only you and I have access to it.

NOTE: If access to the live site is not possible and the staging site does not exist please provide me with a duplicator package created with the duplicator plugin.

Thank you,
Bobby

Thank you! I was able to reproduce the issue with a brand new CPT page under Systems.

The page is also accessible when WPML is deactivated.

I will need to do a few more tests, once I am finished I will update you here.

Hi there,

Please review the following thread:
https://wpml.org/forums/topic/issue-editing-chinese-language-content-in-wpml-you-attempted-to-edit-an-item-that-does-not-exist/#post-16452283

I was able to resolve the issue by doing the following:

- Go to WPML->Settings-> Systems
- Change the translation for the Chinese term back to "systems"

now I can access the edit page.

This is a known issue that our team is working on resolving in the upcoming releases of WPML.

NOTE: Always have a recent and working backup before making any changes recommended by our team or a 3rd party
