This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client was unable to translate the PayPal section in the WooCommerce cart and checkout pages into secondary languages.

Solution:
1. We recommended enabling the "Look for strings while pages are rendered" option in WPML > String Translation, visiting the front-end page where the PayPal section appears, and then searching for the string again in WPML > String Translation.

2. If the string was not found, we suggested that it might be registered as an admin text and provided a link to the documentation on how to find and translate admin text strings: https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/finding-strings-that-dont-appear-on-the-string-translation-page/

3. We also advised the client to update all plugins and themes to the latest versions, especially the PayPal plugin, as outdated versions could be causing the issue.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, we recommend opening a new support ticket for further assistance. You can do so by visiting the WPML support forum.

This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.

Hi,

WPML works fantastic on my website. Only one item I did not manage to translate yet: in checkout and the cart, I was not able yet to show the paypal section in the 2. or third language. I saw some interesting articles on your website that probably adress this topic, only i was not really able to solve it with them.

Could you give me a quick to-do-list how to do this? all the rest of the woocommerce cart and checkout sections are translated - it is only the paypal paying section, where you can choose "pay later after 30 days - read more" ... which still is being shown in german with me (primary language) and not in english. etc

Thank you for your help,
best regards,
Philipp

Hi there, Philipp.

The proper way to translate strings depends a lot on how they have been implemented inside the theme/plugin.

Sometimes, there are even duplicates of the same string and only one of them is the correct one that needs to be translated.

Also, sometimes, simply removing the string (checking the box and removing it) and then re-registering it again by scanning for it (one of the methods below) and re-translating it resolves the issue.

1. Please try this:

Go to WPML > String Translation and at the bottom of the page you will find a checkbox called "Look for strings while pages are rendered". You can enable (check) that and then go in the front end to a page where you have that string showing up and then go back to WPML > String Translation and search for that string and see if it now shows up.

2. If you can't find them inside the WPML > String Translation, they might be added as admin text.

This should be the normal process to find and translate admin text strings:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/finding-strings-that-dont-appear-on-the-string-translation-page/

Please let us know how that goes.

Kind regards,

Hello Mihai!

thanks so much for your fast reply.

first i need to admit, that i don't understand yet, what a "string" is and what the system behind strings and string translation is.

i checked that checkbox. in the frontend, that paypal section appears on the cart page. the cart page itself just consists of "[woocommerce_cart]" - so no translatable text or page links etc.

Thank you for your help & patience,
best,
Philipp

Hi Philipp.

1. Can you please send me a screenshot of the area that you are referring to?

2. I would like to request temporary access (wp-admin and FTP) to your site to take a better look at the issue. You will find the needed fields for this below the comment area when you log in to leave your next reply. The information you will enter is private which means only you and I can see and have access to it.

Our Debugging Procedures

I will be checking various settings in the backend to see if the issue can be resolved. Although I won't be making changes that affect the live site, it is still good practice to backup the site before providing us access. In the event that we do need to debug the site further, I will duplicate the site and work in a separate, local development environment to avoid affecting the live site.

Privacy and Security Policy

We have strict policies regarding privacy and access to your information. Please see:

Thank you, Philipp.

Can you please create a full website backup and then go here (hidden link) and update everything to the latest version?

This issue might be related to the fact that you are using a pretty old version of the PayPal plugin for example.

We need to make sure that everything is up to date.

After you do that, please go through these steps once again (https://wpml.org/forums/topic/how-to-translate-paypal-paying-section/#post-15208459) and see if you can now find the strings in WPML > String Translation or if the strings are automatically translated on the front-end.

Please let me know how things go.
