We have a site that we clone and then do a manual translation to each subdomain (for various reasons related mostly to GDPR and payments). Can we install WPML, translate with the help of an agency, change the default language to the translated language, uninstall WPML and then still keep the translations?

We don't want to keep the original language.

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

Once you translate the pages, yes you can remove WPML and change the default language, or simply deactivate WPML, delete manually not needed content in other language,s and keep just "translation".

Without WPML, they will all be in the same language, since there is no language information.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Drazen

Ok, so if I translate from Swedish to Dutch with WPML, with Swedish being the original language on the site and then change the original language to Dutch. I can then disable WPML and the Dutch language will be there.
I'm using Elementor as well if that makes a difference.

Hi there.

Yes, things will work as my colleague mentioned above.

It doesn't make a difference if you are using Elementor.
