Background of the issue:
Hi,

Many internal links across the site simply have not updated on the translated pages and they still link to the original versions. There are many pages where only a few of the links have updated and others haven't for some reason. All pages are fully translated, they're all published and I've run the "Translate Link Targets" tool multiple times with no luck (it fixed a few, now it just says 0 links).

I managed to maybe get one or two links to update by simply editing the original page, removing the link, saving the page, adding the link back, and saving the page again. But this only worked once or twice out of dozens of times.

I've already manually updated ~60 slugs because those didn't update automatically either, despite the correct settings being applied as confirmed by a support agent (only 2 or 3 slugs updated automatically). I would really like to avoid wasting any more time by manually going and updating dozens or hundreds of links across the site.

Thank you!

Questions:
Why are internal links not updating automatically on translated pages?

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

1) Can you please share 1 example page where I can see links are not translated? It could be that you are using some Elementor addon widgets that are not officially compatible or similar.

2) Other than that, have you tried using dynamic links from Elementor to add internal links? If you do so, and then re-translate the page/update, it will automatically adjust to the correct 2nd language link.

Hi,

I doubt it's an incompatibility issue, rather just a WPML being buggy issue, the plugin seems to be extremely buggy, I've been having tons of issues with it.

Anyway, I managed to get the links updated by manually going through all my site's pages (not fun) and wherever there were improper links, I edited the page and removed -> saved -> added back -> saved links, or when that didn't work (it arbitrarily didn't) I just made a slight change inside the paragraph containing the link (that also arbitrarily didn't work sometimes).

You'd think that when you have a tool *specifically* designed for this (Translate Link Targets) in case the plugin doesn't automatically do the job it's supposed to do, at least the tool would work. But no. Great.

Anyway, a slightly related issue I'm left with now is some links not being transferred at all to the translated pages - as in not even wrongly linking to original pages. The links are just not there. They're on this page: hidden link

Lesiones en trampolines, Lesiones laborales, Muerte por negligencia - these should have links. They're not even bold like on the original page (but they become bold if I remove the link). Adding the link back just makes the text weight regular and nothing more (it doesn't matter if I use dynamic links or not, that's never helped with anything).

I was able to add one or two links by just repeatedly making slight edits to the original text, either to the link itself or the paragraph it's in and there was no discernible pattern that always worked. It's all very random. Those last 3 links I just wasn't able to add whatever I tried and however many times I tried it. Hope you can help with this.

Thanks!

P.S. On a completely unrelated note, do you have any information on when 4.7 will be released? I added a couple of glossary terms and I don't want to spend so many of my credits on retranslating the whole site and I saw that 4.7 will have an option to just replace the affected content (can't wait to see how well that works).

Hello,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm glad to hear you managed to solve the issue, I will be closing this ticket now.

If the issue still comes up please start a new chat and we will be glad to help.

1) Since we limit 1 issue per ticket to keep things clear, I have opened a new ticket and we will continue further there:

2) We expect WPML 4.7 in a few weeks, but I can not share any ETA since these things change depending on testings and etc.

Regards,
Drazen
