This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
On the German domain, all menu navigation returns a 404 error. This issue is due to the REST API being disabled and the absence of the Media Translation plugin.
Solution:
If you're experiencing this issue, we recommend editing your header template using Elementor in the default language and removing the language switcher Elementor widget. Subsequently, add a shortcode widget and use the following shortcode:

[wpml_language_selector_widget]

This should resolve the navigation issue. If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, please check the related known issues, verify the version of the permanent fix, and confirm that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. We highly recommend opening a new support ticket if the problem persists.

Background of the issue:
On the de domain all menu navigation returned 404, the issue can be seen is hidden link.

Symptoms:
On the de domain, any navigation returns a 404 error. The plugin info shows that the REST API is disabled and Media Translation is not installed.

Questions:
Why does navigation on the de domain return a 404 error?

I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP)
Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.

Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.

❌ Please backup your database and website ❌

✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.

✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.

The server is using a secured connection for which you should use an FTP access software like FileZilla and your FTP credentials

I don't mean accessing the files. I mean accessing the dashboard (/wp-admin/) to check the translation settings and translated pages.

I checked the issue and found that it was a translated string in String Translation. I deleted this translation, which fixed the issue.

Hi,

1) It could be a false positive because the REST works correctly. Kindly check the following URLs:

2) Regarding the media translation, please go to WPML-> Media Translation. If you see the images correctly, it's installed. If you see a button that says Finish Setup, you need to click it.

thanks for your service, however from the moment I install the plugin I experience
only problems
I check the pictures and I have a lot missing images and part from the images not clear to me as screenshots and Translate from German to English I relay just before giving up and disconnect the plugin
Please help me to fix it

as I mentioned before I experiencing problems from the day I installed the plugin
I don't want this customer service pingpong no more.
I would like to uninstall the plugin and to reinstall it without losing the translation

Hi,

You can deactivate and activate WPML without losing your translation, but if you want to reset WPML, you will lose your translations and start from scratch.
