Background of the issue:
I am trying to resolve an error message from my multilingual CMS site. I am using WordPress version 6.8.2 with the Foodie Pro 5 theme and the WPML Multilingual CMS plugin version 4.7.6. The PHP version is 8.3.23. The error occurred in the file /home/daniscoo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/classes/xliff/class-wpml-tm-validate-html.php at line 124.

Symptoms:
An error of type E_ERROR was caused by an uncaught error: Call to undefined function mb_ereg_replace_callback() in the specified file. The error message includes a stack trace detailing the sequence of function calls leading to the error.

Questions:
Can you please remind me what this exact plugin is for because I need to understand if I really need it.
Any solution would be welcome, thanks.
