This would be more of a feature request for the Media Translation than a bug, I think.

The problem I'm facing is that I need to regularly update images in the original language (referred to as English later), but not in the translated languages. Please note that it is not an option for me to disconnect/duplicate translations from the original (I want to keep them synchronized).

Currently, the shortest way I found to do this is to upload the new English image to the media library, then replace the image in the English page, then go to media translation and upload all translated (non-English) images again - and again - which is a super long manual process.

As I think the above workflow is super inefficient - and loses us a considerable amount of time - I would greatly appreciate any help in improving it.

Please find a few ideas below:
1. (my favorite choice) Adding the ability to change (upload) an image in the original language while keeping all the media translations from before.
2. Adding the ability to copy & paste media translations from one image to another without the need to reupload the translated images.
3. Adding some way to bulk upload translated images

Thank you for considering it.

Hello,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. My name is Nicolas and I will be happy to help you today.

I understand your point but the original image needs to be linked to the translated image. It's not that WPML link the feature image or the image in the post to the image in the translation. It's a direct link between a specific image and its translation. So every time you change an image on the source post, you will need to add its translations.

One thing that as been discussed is the ability to select an image that is already in the library for translation, that would mean that you don't need to reupload it, you would select the same image you were using before. I have upvoted this featured request by adding your ticket to it. Unfortunately I can't tell you if it's going to be released in a next version or provide an ETA for it.

In your particular case, if the new image is always using the same format as the previous one maybe a solution would be to upload that image via FTP with the exact same name. That way you overwrite the file on your server without touching your posts (you might have to clear the cache of that post).

Hi Nico,

Thanks for clarifying how images are linked and upvoting the feature request you mentioned.

Unfortunately FTP won't work for me, because my images often change in size and database would need an update too to work properly.

Hi,

Nicolas went on holiday yesterday I'm taking care of his queue in the meantime.
I can see that you have requested a feature option. Do you have more questions regarding that?

Thanks
