Background of the issue:
I was trying to manage translations for my website using WPML. I expected the plugin to not duplicate posts and pages. We have two environments: devel and live, and we are upgrading on devel and uploading files using GIT.

Symptoms:
Some pages and posts were duplicated under different languages. This issue seems to have started after updating all WPML related plugins on April 7th, and we discovered the problem on April 16th. I disabled automatic translations and removed duplicate posts, pages, and platforms.

Questions:
Why are pages and posts being duplicated under different languages? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this from happening again?

We think it was duplicated by automatic translation

Hi,

I apologize for the delay in responding. I will take care of this ticket; the reply time will be shorter now.

Just to confirm that I fully understand the issue:
It appears that after updating WPML-related plugins on April 7th, some posts and pages were unintentionally duplicated across different languages. These duplicates were discovered around April 16th. From what you’ve described, it seems that WPML’s automatic translation feature may have been triggered — possibly by someone on your team — and instead of linking translations properly, it created entirely new posts or pages as duplicates.

You’ve since disabled automatic translation and manually cleaned up the duplicated content.

Could you please confirm if this summary is accurate?

After disabling automatic translation, did it happen again? If it did, can you describe the steps that trigger the duplication?

Best Regards,
Otto

It's correct. "After disabling automatic translation, did it happen again?" - No.

Hello,

Thanks for the confirmation.

If you send only one post to translate automatically it work? I mean, does it create a translation or does it create a duplicate post in the original language?

Best Regards,
Otto

We'll test it. I have another problem: we have json field and WPML doesn't want translate it (other fields are fine). I attach screesnshots. What options do we have?
Probably we can remake this field if it's required... But we don't want to translate 50 fields, it's more convinient to have all field's translations in one place.
