This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.

Problem:
The client changed the primary language of their website from German to English and encountered issues with translations not updating correctly. When editing a page in Elementor in English and then switching to the Dutch translation, the changes were not visible because the Dutch translation was still referring to the German page, which was the primary language before the change.
Solution:
We explained that when the primary language is changed, the default language for existing posts and pages remains unchanged. Therefore, for the existing content, the client should first make changes in the original primary language (German), and then update the English and Dutch translations. For new content, the client can create it directly in English and then translate it into German and Dutch. We recommended verifying this approach and providing feedback.

i was typing my message and suddenly it was deleted. i try to recall again.

Dear team of WPML,

I successfully implemented wpml in a 3-language-setting on my website and am really happy working with it. in one of my tickets i received help about about changing the primary language from originally german to now english.

Translation management

I sometimes face translation situations that i dont fully understand.
I go to a page and edit it in elementor. as english is the primary page, i am editing the english page then. then i want to adjust the translations and i go to the dutch translation. in there, i can not see the changes i just made on the english one, because, that dutch translation is still referring to the german page, as this used to be the primary language before the change of the primary language. If i then edit the german translation, elementor opens, and i dont see the changes that i actually made in the english one. So i again do the chnages with elementor, i go to the dutch translation and can now adjust the dutch translation as it is still referring to the german. Could you explain me the principle here - as i thougt, i change a page with elementor in the primary language, and adjust the remaining two languages in the wpml translation management.

thank you very much for your help and support!
best regards,
Philipp

Hi Philipp,

Welcome to the WPML support forum. I will do my best to help you to resolve the issue.

Please note that I have opened a new ticket for this because as per our support policies, we can only handle one issue per ticket. It will help us to serve you better and we can avoid discussing multiple problems in one ticket. Thank you for your understanding.

Once we change the primary language of the site, the default language of the posts/pages will not be changed. So the default language for the posts and pages you have created in German will remain German.

Therefore, for the existing posts & pages, please make changes in German first, then update the English & Dutch translations.

For the upcoming posts & pages, you can create them in English and translate them into German & Dutch.

Please verify this and let us know your feedback.
