Hello,

as for Duplicate or invalid SKU issues, I checked and it works just fine on my test site.

Can you please confirm that the issue also happens when you are trying to add a new product in the default language with a unique SKU number?

If you have the same product in EN or FR with the same SKU then it is somehow expected for this to happen.
