Background of the issue:
I am trying to restore the URL of a category for posts on my website to its original form. The URL has been translated into Korean, and I want to revert it back. We are not using WooCommerce.

Symptoms:
The URL of the category for posts on our website has been translated into Korean.

Questions:
How can I restore the translated category URL back to its original form?

There is an option to adjust this. Navigate to WPML > Settings > Translated documents options > Page URL > Copy from original language if translation language uses encoded URLs . I've attached a screenshot for our reference.

Please try and let me know how it goes.

Have you tried translating the categories again? You should be able to adjust the "slug"(URL) as explained here https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/translating-post-categories-and-custom-taxonomies/#translating-your-taxonomy-terms-from-a-central-page

I will need to closely examine your website. Therefore, I will require temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) to a test site where the problem has been replicated, if possible. This will enable me to provide better assistance and determine if any configurations need to be modified.

Please note that it is important to have a backup for security purposes and to prevent any potential data loss. You can use the UpdraftPlus plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/) to fulfill your backup requirements.

Hi Kor,

Thank you for the operation video you made for me.

I found that there are still two problems:
1. After changing the category page link back to the default language English, the page layout is different from before the change.

2. Whether before or after the change, some SEO parameters of the category page, including keywords and Meta Description, are not translated. Does this need to be translated manually?

Sorry for breaking your category page. I'm not sure why changing the slug would break it. Could you restore the staging site from a backup so that I could check again?

As for your second question, yes, you need to translate it. Try searching for the strings using the String Translation.

1. I don't have a new cache site now. Please use the website access information I sent you last time to further check the problem that the page layout changes after the category page is translated and the slug is changed. The detailed description is that the entire layout has changed, and the sidebar is gone, but the product list is there, but the style has changed.

2. Another related problem is that after the category page is translated, whether it is Korean or Japanese, the product list column of the category page is gone, and other layouts have not changed.

When I translated the category page into Japanese, Japanese characters appeared in the link slug again. How can I keep the default language when translating into other languages in the future?

For the category pages that have been translated into Japanese, how do I change the link to the default English one? Should I still follow the video you posted about changing the category pages from Korean back to English?

If you're already familiar with Duplicator (https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/), please skip the following steps and simply send me the archive file you downloaded.

To guide you further, please adhere to these instructions:

1. View the Duplicator instructions video: hidden link

2. Consult WPML's instructions on providing supporters with a copy of your site: https://wpml.org/faq/provide-supporters-copy-site/

3. If the archive file exceeds 400MB, please use Duplicator's file filters to exclude cache, wp-uploads directory, media, and archive files.

Once you have the archive file ready, kindly share the link with us. You can utilize platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar for file sharing, as the snapshot file might be large.

Please note that your next reply will be private, visible only to you and me. You can paste the file link there. Rest assured that once the issue is resolved, I will delete the local site.
