Background of the issue:
Our authors are from different countries, and we display their news. The main page is in English (hidden link), and on the right, we show a list of countries with their names and flags. I have configured the translation of all 'authors domain' in both 'display name' and 'nickname' using the 'String translation' page.
Symptoms:
When I view the Spanish version (hidden link), the countries are not translated.
Questions:
How can I get the translations of the countries to show on the Spanish version?
I created this site many years ago and I did not remember how it was done. I entered the widget area and saw that it is a missing "legacy widget". So I created a new one and using the icl_t function I was able to translate the countries name.
However, I could not translate the word "Countries" into Spanish. In the string translation screen, looking under widgets translations, I found widget title = "Countries" and I added the translation, but it did not work. Where can I translate it?
Because I was not able to translate the word "countries" (!?) and I did not want to duplicate widgets for five languages, my decision was to do not shown an English word, but an icon. I wonder why it was not possible to translate the title of a widget with WPML.
Thank you for your feedback. You can translate it using WPML → String Translation. Due to compatibility issues with the widget, the translation may not appear. Have a great week.
