Hi there,

I am trying to translate *only* the title part of an ACF Pro link field. What I am hoping for, is that I can translate the title, but the link url can be programmatically changed to suit the language?

For instance, let's say I have an About page, default language is English, other languages are french, dutch and german. On the translated versions of the page, I want to be able to change the link title to the current language, but the url would be controlled programmatically to automatically find the translated page.

I can't seem to get this working.

Hello,

thanks for contacting us.

It sounds to me like a scenario where it should work correctly. Hello,

In order to check this further, I created a minimal installation of WordPress, WPML, and all necessary WPML add-ons.

You can access the WordPress dashboard using the link below:
- hidden link

Kindly follow the steps below:
- Set up WPML
- Install the necessary plugins.
- Try to replicate the issue.
- Share with me step by step guide on how can I check the issue

This will help us to report the probable issue to the compatibility team and solve the possible problem faster.

Regards,
Drazen

Hello! Thanks for coming back to me.

I simply don't have the time to re-create everything because the website I am working on is quite a complex setup.

I have however, recorded a video in hope it makes more sense what I am asking? hidden link.

Hello Matt,

that is a helpful and descriptive video, but I am afraid I won't be able to be much helpful.

To note if the URL appears in ATE then you need to translate it manually, so the link should not appear and be translated in the background to the corresponding translated page. I also see you use COPY once and WPML editor, which is not recommended settings:https://wpml.org/documentation/related-projects/translate-sites-built-with-acf/recommended-custom-fields-translation-preferences-for-acf-and-wpml/

Also please note we can support or debug custom themes/solutions. The best way forward would be if you can set up an example case on the test site, so for example 1 LINK ACF field / group and 1 page and maybe ACF options, and then see if the same issue happens. If yes, then I can check for any solution to this or check with the 2nd tier if this might be a bug.

We do not need the whole setup reproduced, just 1 dummy simple example page to see the issue.

Let me know if possible and how it goes.

Regards,
Drazen

"We do not need the whole setup reproduced, just 1 dummy simple example page to see the issue."

But that doesn't guarantee the setup is identical? That's not "replicating the issue"?

As I say, I am so busy that I don't have time to start replicating things on another website—when my website is a functioning example of the issue I am facing.

The issue is, if I change the link to "Copy", I can't translate the title text, can I?

Hello,

1) I mean to say the same example case, so I think if you set up the same ACF field group as you have, with the ACF option and 1 example page, it should be the same case. And then if it is and WPML / ACF bug, the same issue should happen with the Link field.

I do not think it should take more than 15 minutes, I have already configured the website for you.

2) As per our policy we can not check or debug custom-coded solutions / theme and etc.

3) I mean to set the GROUP field to COPY; that means it will copy the same subfields, and for the subfield (link) button you can set it to Translate / COPY, but I guess Translate will also add a link to translate.

I suspect it could be how ACF/WPML works, so I am trying to confirm this in sandbox so it can be escalated further for 2nd opinion, but need your help with an example case.

Thanks,
Drazen
