[Resolved] Trying to translate a news article but seeing a message "You need to translate this post manually b...
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: You are trying to translate news articles using WPML and encounter a message stating 'You need to translate this post manually because the field groups attached to it use different translation options'. Additionally, the translation does not appear as fully completed. Solution: We recommend clearing the cache in WPML under 'WPML' -> 'Support' -> 'Troubleshooting'. After clearing the cache, make a minor edit to the post in the default language and then translate it again. This should resolve the issue and display the translation correctly.
If this solution does not apply to your case, or if it seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues at https://wpml.org/known-issues/, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket at WPML support forum for further assistance.
This is the technical support forum for WPML - the multilingual WordPress plugin.
Everyone can read, but only WPML clients can post here. WPML team is replying on the forum 6 days per week, 22 hours per day.
Background of the issue:
I am trying to translate news articles on my site hidden link using WPML. I have completed a translation for the page, but it never shows completely translated.
Symptoms:
I see a message saying 'You need to translate this post manually because the field groups attached to it use different translation options'.
Questions:
What does the alert about different translation options mean?
Why is the translation not showing as completely translated?
Thanks for contacting WPML forums support. I'll be glad to help you today.
First of all, sorry for the late reply; it was due to a higher workload.
Please go to ACF-> Field Groups and check the group's translation preferences on this page/post.
If it says "Different Fields in Different Languages," please change it to "Same Fields Across Languages."
I checked the ACF Field Groups page and it is set to "Same Fields across languages".
We also got this from the developer of our site that something is throwing errors. I've attached a screenshot, but maybe it would be better if we could attach the file?
1) Thanks for your update. Please let me know if you are about to translate the posts/pages without seeing the mentioned message after changing the field group translation preference.
2) We try to keep one issue per ticket in our forum, so could you please open a new ticket for the error issue?
Continuing with one ticket per issue helps supporters focus on one issue at once and enables other users to find solutions to their questions faster.
I’m sorry for the confusion. The setting in ACF was already set to “Same Fields Across Languages”. So I didn't change anything.
yes, we are still seeing the issue with the error: “You need to translate this post manually because the field groups attached to it use different translation options.”
My apologies for the confusion with the additional information. I thought it might be related. I’ll log a separate ticket for that one.
I would need to look closely at your site, so I would need to request temporary access (WP-Admin and FTP) Preferably to a test site where the problem has been replicated.
Your answer will be private, meaning only you and I can access it.
❌ Please back up your database and website ❌
✙ I need your permission to deactivate and reactivate the plugins and themes and change site configurations. This is also why the backup is critical.
✙ I also need your permission to take a local copy of your site to debug the issue without affecting your live site.
Thanks for the access details. I tried translating the post in your screenshot, and the translation editor opened correctly. (Kindly check the attached screenshot)
Please let me know the steps to reproduce the issue.
If you Click on Complete Translation, the document returns to the Page listing page, but if you go to view the page, it doesn't show as published, but always shows the gear (see image 2).
I thought this might have to do with the Approval process, but when I go to the Translations queue, it only shows "In Progress" and I cannot approve or finalize the document so it can be "published" and available (Image 1).
if I go to the page to view and select Spanish, it doesn't load the Spanish page (image 3)
Thanks for your update. I cleared the cache in WPML-> Support-> Troubleshooting. After that, I made a minor edit to the post in the default language and translated it.
After the above steps, the translated post worked correctly. (hidden link)
