[Resolved] Unable to activate WPML String Translation plugin
This thread is resolved. Here is a description of the problem and solution.
Problem: The client is unable to activate the WPML String Translation plugin, even after updating all plugins, the theme, and WordPress itself. The issue persists with WPML 4.6.15 and String Translation 3.3.1. Solution: We recommend deactivating all plugins and then reactivating them one by one to identify any conflicts. In this case, the issue occurred with the BuddyBoss Integration and BuddyBoss Platform plugins. Here are the steps to resolve the issue: 1. Take a backup of your site. 2. Deactivate the BuddyBoss Integration and BuddyBoss Platform plugins. 3. Try activating the WPML String Translation plugin first. 4. Reactivate the BuddyBoss plugins. 5. Ensure all plugins are updated to their latest versions.
If this solution does not resolve the issue or seems outdated, we highly recommend checking related known issues, verifying the version of the permanent fix, and confirming that you have installed the latest versions of themes and plugins. If the problem persists, please open a new support ticket.

Background of the issue:
I am trying to activate the WPML String Translation plugin, but it doesn't work and stays deactivated. I have updated all plugins, the theme, and the WordPress version, but it didn't help. I have WPML 4.6.15 and the string translation is 3.3.1.
Symptoms:
The WPML String Translation plugin does not activate and remains deactivated.
Questions:
What can I do to activate the WPML String Translation plugin?
How can I translate strings on my platform?
To further debug this issue without affecting your live site, I have set up a fresh WP site on a test server(cloudways). Please migrate your site to our test server so that we can check if it’s a theme/plugin conflict or a server-specific issue.
I shared the migration details in my previous private reply.
I didn't get notifications about your replies so didn't know you have sent me the instructions. Right now I followed your instructions and the website is being migrated. In short time it will be done and you can perform your tests. Thank you 🙂
The login credentials are not working on the migrated site. I suspect the issue is due to Google reCAPTCHA, as I’m seeing the following error:
ERROR para el propietario del sitio web:
el dominio de la clave de sitio web no es válido
I’ve tried deactivating related plugins and even disabled the theme via FTP, but the issue persists. I’m now systematically deactivating each plugin to identify the source.
If you know which plugin is adding reCAPTCHA, please let me know, it will help speed up troubleshooting.
I deactivated all plugins and reactivated them one by one. The issue started occurring when I activated the following plugins(screenshot attached from FTP):
- BuddyBoss Integration
- BuddyBoss Platform
After activating these plugins, I tried activating the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin, but it behaved the same way, it showed as activated but wasn’t actually active.
Could you please take a backup of your site and try deactivating these two plugins? Then, activate the WPML String Translation plugin first, followed by reactivating the BuddyBoss plugins.
Additionally, I recommend updating all outdated plugins to their latest versions. On the migrated site, 49 plugin updates are available.
SO I disabled BB plugin and activated String translation. After that I've activated BB plugin again and the string plugin stays active. But any string translation I do is not reflected on the front end. So I am able to do the translation of the strings, but no reflection on the platform.

Glad to hear you are able to activate the String Translation plugin now. For string translation not reflected at frontend problem, it’s a different issue and will be handled separately as per our support policy. I've created a new ticket for this at: https://wpml.org/forums/topic/string-translation-not-reflected-on-the-front-end/
If the string translation plugin activation issue is solved, please mark this ticket as resolved and we will continue working on the above ticket for it.
Thank you for your cooperation
