I am trying to: Maintain appropriate languages on my website however, we will modify something and it won't be translated and we can't find where to make the changes to actually have it in the proper language.

Link to a page where the issue can be seen: hidden link on this page you'll see it on the text behind the tile CNR that is in English instead of French. The next section INSPIRE A PASSION [...] is also randomly in English. These are just two instances but it's happening all over our website.

I expected to see: French

Instead, I got: English

Hello,

How was this section created?

Did you use the Customizer of the theme or are you using a page that you are editing inside the WordPress Editor?

Best regards
Andreas

Hello Andreas.

For this example, the homepage, we use the customizer of the theme. We make the modifications in both language but it looks like adding the English version just switched everything to English.

I hope I am describing the problem correctly, I am not sure what is actually going on.

Have a good day,

Agathe

Hello Agathe,

The issue is that the Customizer saves the changes only in the site's default language.

You will need to go to WPML > String Translation and click the link "Translate texts in admin screens" at the bottom of the page.

Then search for your strings, add them to String Translation, and translate them.

Guide:
https://wpml.org/documentation/getting-started-guide/string-translation/finding-strings-that-dont-appear-on-the-string-translation-page/#translate-admin-and-settings-strings

If this will not solve the issue, please let me know.

Best regards
Andreas

Hello Andreas,

We tried looking for the string that needs translation but couldn’t find it. We did find a string that seems to be one we would want translated (NOS PROGRAMMES) but it showed as locked (I am attaching a screenshot so you can see).

A weird thing that we’ve noticed is that we have an old version of the text we’re trying to translate in the strings but don’t find the updated version. We tried translating that one anyway but it didn’t do any changes, so we deleted them. (screenshots added as well)

The difference between old and new is that the new version should show $377,000 (it does on the site) and the older versions show $250,000; $215,000 or a different amount. this is the text:

“Open to students in grades 10 to 12 across Canada, the Contest will award a total of $377,000 in scholarships, giving its winners the chance to pursue their postsecondary studies partially or completely in French.”

We have tried from both from the French interface and English interface with the same results.

Another weird thing is that my colleague found the string yesterday but the translation didn’t work and we tried to look for it again and couldn’t, even though we tried all the keywords that should appear in the text.

Your strings are by default registered as English strings.

Please mark the strings and change the source language to French.

Then translate the strings.
